The off duty Receptionist came through to help me complete the literally impossible task of Self-Check-In
He had to go and get his laptop as it was impossible by mobile phone.
He was bamboozled too and discovered that certain functionality was 'gone, it's not supposed to do that!'
I arrived at 22.10 and got through the door to reception as another guest was going out the locked door to smoke
The guest said 'Your too late now, they all finish at 10pm'
There was a keylock on the outside of the Hotel which in theory I should have received entry instructions for. I did not.
Once inside the darkened reception area, there was an intercom to speak to a disembodied voice who told me that the Wi-Fi code and instructions for self check in were stuck on the glass next to the intercom. It was hard to see in the dark, but I found a Wi-Fi code that did NOT work
I was tired and just wanted to go to bed and this was so taxing.
'Check-In 101' is surely, make it smooth and painless
This was as rough as a badger's bum and agony
Thank you again to George who came and helped me

Not a great place if you are a dog owner and want a walk on the beach. For some reason dogs are not allowed on the pier either - which was a real disappointment as we'd been looking forward to walking it's length once again. If you just want to walk the promenade then that's quite pleasant, as are the cliff gardens. Plenty of good eating places along the seafront and it's worth checking out a few of the ones that offer more than just the standard "& chips" options. This was a bit of a trip down memory lane for us so we were not too fussed about some of the more touristy options. We thought the high street offered a good variety of shops and the Vistoria and Royal shopping malls looked interesting although we did not go in (no dogs) so missed out on those.

I grew up in Westcliff-on-sea and came to visit old friends plus the cemetary where my parents are laid to rest. I now live in Somerset, so it was good to reminisce with memories and have contact with my old friends. So I know most of the area and although the high street looks a little run down-many other parts and parks are still beautiful and the sea air and sea front are still a wonderful retreat and a good place to visit for a break.

We was an all male party , come down to Southend to see The Feelgood Band at the Plough west cliff.
We visited a few pubs , where we found people to be friendly.
Taxi service was excellent.
We visited the sea front and found it fun , clean and tidy.
Chinnerys and the Cricketers were also excellent watering holes lol

Actually, Leigh-on-Sea, Chalkwell and Westcliffe EXCEEDED our expectations. Good walks, lots of nice cafes.
We kept away from the funfair, amusement arcades and fish and chips area as that was not what we wanted from our stay,

The mattress was thick and soft. The air-conditioning worked very well and the room was clean. They don't have family rooms as far as I know but they have a z bed option for our 5 year old son and there are other options like having two twin rooms that I can consider in the future. You can literally hold your breath from Southend Central train station to the premises.
A great location right in the heart of Southend on Sea. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The bar and outside terrace are great for relaxing over looking the sea.
