A characterful and dinky little spot in the perfect location in Southwell, a couple of minutes away from the Minster. Great price for a sweet, warm and cozy room. Had lots of thoughtful little touches such as milk and coffee. It is tiny but has everything you need; WiFi, microwave, hob and even some TV subscription channels. The owner was very sweet and accommodating with us and provided useful guides on the room and the area.
Due to the central location you might benefit from earplugs due to being close to the road, though it isn't a busy road off peak.

We were in Southwell for a family birthday lunch held in the Stage venue at the Old Theatre Deli. The food and service were excellent and appreciated by all fifty guests.
We also had a first-class meal at the Hearty Goodfellow the previous evening - also highly recommended.
Between these two venues lies the golden heart of Southwell - the Minster - a magnificent 12th century Romaneque church, known especially for the delicacy of its stonework - and in particular its rood screen and the carved leaves which adorn the capitals of the Chapter House and elsewhere. The Minster is known as the 'hidden gem' of English Cathedrals - and it is easy to see why.
Do visit if you can!

A lovely little market town with lots of individual shops in narrow streets and a variety of places to eat. Recommend Gossips Coffee House - delicious food and you can book a table! Parking is easy too and very central.
Southwell Minster is a wonderful building with some amazing stonework features. Do book a guided tour. It is free entry to the minster and the Bishops Palace next door. The town workhouse is also well worth a visit.

Southwell is one of the most charming villages I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Stunning natural beauty and original architecture makes this a must-see. The area is steeped in fascinating history both of local and national interest.
There is so much to do - history trails, historical monuments including the best preserved workhouse in England.
Newark, Nottingham and Sherwood first are all in visiting distance and not to mention picturesque walks and cruises along the River Trent.
Don’t overlook this hidden gem 💎

Southwell, has a lot of history that is linked to the Minster. Although Southwell isn't that big, there's shop's & passage ways to explore that lead you around the back of Southwell. A reasonable network of footpaths for local walks, by the river, down to the National Trust property just outside the town & into the countryside its self.
It's worth checking the what's on page's, as the Minster does hold events.

A really warm welcome upon arrival, plenty of interest in why we were in the area and advise about what was nearby. Explained that she had only recently taken over the Hotel and her plans to bring it up to a better standard. Good selection of beers available. There was music in the evening but it did not go on till later than 21:30, Lovely atmosphere with locals in the bar. Really nice continental breakfast in the morning and again the hostess could not have been more attentive.
Lavender Cottage is a lovely place to stay and explore Southwell. It is cosy and comfortable with everything you need for your stay. We loved the extras like the fire being set ready for use and the breakfast provided in the kitchen. Rebecca was a delightful host, with some great suggestions for places to visit and for local restaurants.
We were in the small downstairs flat. Had everything we needed and more. But we didn't need to cook.
All very good. Southwell is all very posh and nice.
