The hotel was excellent and the breakfast was excellent too but unfortunately other guests disturbed our time spent there especially through the bedtime period
This was because a group of children with teachers were very inconsiderate regarding other guests staying on the same landing

Everything. I stayed in room 42 which was very nicely decorated. I especially loved the bathtub in the bathroom. The whole staff was amazing and friendly especially in the breakfast room. Location was great, super close to the York Minster. I will definitely stay here again.

Breakfast was fantastic. Ordered what you liked and the lattes were great! Had a nice snack pantry area on the second floor. The location was great and I loved walking to the shambles and around the medieval walls. Pro tip - reserve your parking ahead. Wonderful help bringing bags in and up to our room on the third floor - there are steps. Lovely old house and rooms were beautifully decorated. Lovely parlor and bar as well!

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once gave access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views of the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even try out archaeology for yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around a 30-minute drive away, Castle Howard is a stately home on an over 1,000-acre estate.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there's a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses in York and on the outskirts available on Booking.com.
The city is charming and mysterious. We met some of the most amazing Brits who made our stay wonderful. Wish we stayed longer. Our hotel was great, breakfast exceptional. Wish we had at least one more night but are grateful for at least one full of adventure.

I fell in love with York.
I fell in love with York. A flair of Mary Poppins; lovely walks; small neighborhood cafes and stores; Evensong at the Minster with a lovely organ-accompanied choir. The cool weather and greens lovely for a sun-parched Californian. It’s the best, if you like walking, even when it’s drizzling; Ubers are great, but expensive.
It helps to have local showing the best spots.

Great place to visit for a short trip.
Great place to visit for a short trip. Lots of things to see and do in the city centre, and more further afield.
City centre very walkable, even from one end to the other doesn't take too long and lots to see on the way.
Seems a much more 'studenty' city than when I was last here (late 90s). Saturday night in town a bit loud as a result.
When I was here (October 2024), roads around the Station and National Railway Museum are undergoing major works with diversions, closures etc. The National Railway Museum itself is also in the middle of major renovations and isn't fully open. Would advise checking before travelling.

So much to see and do, we have a list of things that we would like to do next time……this time we did a good walk around York, visit the the most haunted pub, river cruise and visit to York Dungeons. There is every type of restaurant you can think of….and we really enjoyed our food and the service has been excellent. Next time we will do the Cat Walk, more shopping, ghost walk, a walk around the walls of York, an open top bus tour…..we just ran out of time on this visit….

The City of York is beautiful and lots to do.
The City of York is beautiful and lots to do. Everything is very close together so you can get round. The Witches walking tour is good our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. Also the Harry Potter tour was good, this is mainly a history of York with ref to Harry Potter due to the architecture of the buildings.
Lots of places to eat and drink in some respects you are spoilt for choice

Limited choice and prone to running out of food, so you could not get your full breakfast without waiting on more food being brought out. Could have done with a choice of eggs rather than scrambled egg every day.
The location of the hotel was fine and near a park and ride for getting into York city centre.. The Toby Carvery next to the hotel was not good. The food at the carvery looked as if it had been lying for hours and needed to be replaced with fresh food.
The room was very spacious, beautiful and comfortable. It is located in York city centre and close to everywhere including the train station. The best part was the spa facility in the hotel, having a good size of swimming pool with jacuzzi. We really enjoyed staying at The Grand York. Also friendly and kind staff. Highly recommended.
Returning many times as a lover of this delightful country house hotel in charming and convenient surroundings. Great access into York City Centre, but once within the hotel grounds you could be deep in the country. Everything meets expectations with reasonable prices that are clearly flexible and influenced by occupation rates.
Staff were very friendly. Hotel is fairly close to York city centre (20 minute walk). Street was very quiet and safe. Lots of parking available for cheap. Room met all our expectations with a free small breakfast provided.
