Fira is a very good "home base" for Santorini visitors, as there is always [and regularly scheduled] accessible public transport to travel to nearby towns (like Oia or Kamari). If you're not planning to spend a lot on hotels, be sure to check smaller properties on the outskirts of Santorini that's within a 5 to 10 minute walk to and from the town centre and you should be fine. There is also a well-stocked [and affordable] supermarket within Fira, so there's also plenty of chances to save a bit of cash with meals if you (or one of your party) is willing to prepare food on your own.

Everything was easy to get to, Fira was lovely.
Everything was easy to get to, Fira was lovely. However, it was sooo expensive, 13 euros for a small Greek salad. They get away with serving substantial food at high prices because of the cruise ships and island hoppers. Try to avoid going to the scenic for a meal as the food is generally not good. But do go for a drink.
I found it challenging to go in late April, as the weather was temperamental, the cost of everything was high, and the crowd was too much. And that is out of season!

It's the center of Santorini.
It's the center of Santorini. It keeps crowdy as it's the most famous touristic spot after OIA. At the same time the place is really beautiful and there are many activities you can do. The food price was also really cheap than my expectations. You can have a cheap meal in 6-10 EUROS and if you want to have some expensive meal with sunset view it will cost 50-100 EURO per person. So it is possible to go on a budget trip there if you want so.

We visited Thira in April. This is classed as the shoulder period. The weather was lovely about 20 each day but a bit windy in the evening so take appropriate clothes. The best about this period is no crowds. You can sit in luxury overlooking the stunning caldera view with none of the pathetic influences in front of you....The town is lovely with lots of fresh food options available. Go to Pyrgos its stunning

Great place to visit and. Fira generally cheaper than Oia.
Great place to visit and. Fira generally cheaper than Oia. Restaurant meals were generally cheap. Wide range in prices for same products in terms of souvenirs and things in different shops. Favourite places to eat were Theoni's, Stani Tavern, China Famous Food and Fu Li Hua. Very easy to get around Fira. No need for a car.

We visited in late March 2025, so many of the shops in Fira were still closed, but enough shops and restaurants were open to fully meet our shopping and dining needs. The temperatures in late March were very comfortable. We also happened to be there on Greek Independence Day so enjoyed a parade with people wearing traditional/festive clothing.

Excellent location in Fira - a short leap from everything you could possibly need. The hospitality was excellent and we were made to feel very welcome by the team. The property itself is beautiful and quiet with a great pool and spaces to relax - the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and well laid out with everything you might need. Most of all, we just enjoyed the overall ambience of the hotel and how sincerely we were treated. Would highly recommend this for a stay in Santorini!
Lila was amazing! She helped us rent a car, provide guidance on what do to, the schedule of the buses. She was super helpful, nice and friendly. Hotel is also well located, very clean - 5 minutes walk from Fira attractions as well as the Fira bus station. I will recommend them to everyone I know going to Santorini!
This hotel is in a perfect location, away from the noise and crowds of Santorini but still only a 10 min walk to Fira. Beautiful rooms and amazing staff that were so helpful. We lived our stay and the hotel was actually our favourite part of the trip.
The hotel is very close to Fira bus terminal and easy for daily transfer to Oia or beaches in Santorini. The room is small but for the price you are paying for, it is considered good. Safe area and quite in the evening.
Very nice hotel with probably the best view in Santorini, great price to value ratio. The breakfast also was very good, also helpful and welcoming staff. With car to Fira only 3 minutes.
