I found it quite relaxing...weather could have been better...but who can control that ?
We had a car so transport and roads easy to navigate....the flowers and trees were in blossom and plenty of space to walk
No sandy beaches but being a senior citizen that was of little concern for me clear blue sea and sky when we had sun.
It was very clean and the parks pleasant to walk in.

We stayed with friends here and we had a very bad experience for paying $250 a night. Our friends first room when we arrived there was a hole in the wall and smelled like smoke. They asked to change rooms and they moved them to 666. When we arrived at room 666 there was a red substance, possible blood, on the doorframe outside of our door as well as the door across from us. Inside, there were cob webs in the corners, the towel rack was falling down, the shower had mold, a piece of the shower head broke off and scuff marks all over the walls. This was not acceptable standards for $250 euros a night in a 3-4 star hotel. The staff at the bar was also very rude to us, unwilling to answer questions or help with drink options.
They had already asked to be moved to a different room once and would not stay another night. We are on holiday and flew across from the United States to be with them and they had the rental car. We had to leave with them when the hotel did not meet their standards.
When asking the front desk to refund our unused night, she had us wait 1.5 hours until checkout time to give us an answer. She said all she was allowed to offer them was another room and there was no way for us to speak to a manager. She claimed we were blackmailing her and that we needed to stop talking when in reality we were expecting superior customer service considering the hotel’s star rating. She was rude and not helpful.
At her recommendation, we’ve sent follow up emails with pictures to hotel management and she said we would receive a response by Monday. Today is Friday and after multiple emails we have not received a response and they will not answer their phones either.
Absolutely horrific.

Opatija is beautiful!
Opatija is beautiful! The beaches are clean and the water is crystal clear. Many restaurants everywhere. The lungomare (long shore-side promenade built in the 19th century) is an extraordinary walkway - highly recommended!

The beaches are not private, so it is easy to swim.
A lot of the restaurants are close to the road, a small place and not so many choises.
Nice buildings and great view. I lot nicer than Rijeka, which I dont recommend beacuse of old buildings not maintained, and not a nice promenade. But Rijeka is cheaper and better shopping.
Not sun in the evening because of the moutaints.

The more than 170 years of tourism tradition is based on the positive energy of the riviera and the exceptional natural conditions. The revival of the Opatija tourism industry is seen through the constant renovation of hotels in the last few years and the opening of new boutique hotels, which are raising the level of the offer for the most demanding tourist groups.
This little Adriatic town is also known as the “Old Dame”, the “Nice of the Adriatic” or the “Queen of Croatian Tourism” certainly deserves all the flattering titles since the tradition of business and leisure tourism dates back to the late 19th century, when in 1885 the first congress, the Congress of Balneologists, was organised by the Austrian Southern Railway Company. Back then, Opatija was still part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire which played a crucial role in placing this Northern Adriatic gem on the map of the most sophisticated tourist destinations in the Balkan region and the world.

The location is perfect, and it has a beautiful beach with crystal clear water. Dog beach is only 1 minute walk distance, and looks also nice.
The breakfast was simple but delicious.
The size of the room was great, parking place was also provided, which makes our life easier in Opatija.
The center is ~20-25 minutes walking distance, perfect for an afternoon/evening walk.
The staff is helpful, cleaning ladies are very friendly and doing great job.
Marica is this type of host who will do her best to ensure your stay will be the best possible.
When arriving, and after waiting for us to a reserved parking spot, she gave us the rule of the studio: "tomorrow, before you leave, I'll offer you the coffee".
Definitely, Marica is smiling and will leave you with positive thoughts about Croatians.
Great location! In the city center, easy to reach from the main road. Parking either in the garage or just behind the hotel (under cameras). Very polite and friendly staff, regardless or at the reception, or at the bar, at breakfast/dinner. The food was good and lots of to choose from. All in all very nice experience.
This apartment has a cozy living room connected with a useful kitchen-corner and has a large terrace. In Opatija it is a great feature that this apartment provides a private and free parking spot.
The place is dog-friendly.
