With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.
Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it offers the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try this than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.
To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur, while based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

The lights up for the Parliament building is a nice experience and so is the walk along the river. The Hungarian wines are good. Budapest is relatively inexpensive and there is a lot to do and see. Plan ahead for good restaurants. Mazel Tov and Retek Bistro were both very good choices that we made. Realize that Budapest was historically split into two...
Realize that Budapest was historically split into two separate cities, which are not merged, but remain as separate sections. The natural border between them is the Danube River. Buda, is more monumental, and the historic castle is on a hill. This provides a lot of medieval streets and access to wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, the Danube, and of Pest. Pest is lower, more flat, and is the economic center, so think shopping, restaurants, and other type of things to visit like parks, zoo, and the famous Szecheny Pools. I think one needs at least 3 days , but probably 5 or 6 is better so all major monuments can be visited on both the Buda and Pest sides as well as doing some extra things like walking some parks and visiting the Szecheny pools.Guest review byaquacodeUnited States - 8.0
As far as cities go, Budapest is high at the top of my list.
As far as cities go, Budapest is high at the top of my list. I am not a city person, but I enjoyed my three days here. I particularly liked the walk to Gellert hill and walking around Margrit island.
