A City of Two Halves
With a dome reminiscent of Brunelleschi’s "The Duomo" in Florence, the Hungarian parliament building is undoubtedly the icon of Budapest. It sits majestically by the Danube, the river that both divides and unifies the 2 parts of this capital city: Buda and Pest.
Overseeing Budapest from its vantage point on Castle Hill is Buda Castle. Spectacularly lit at night, it has the best views across this attractive city steeped in World Heritage. Some unique points of interest are Heroes Square and the Museum of Terror, reminders of the city’s more turbulent past.
Much like in Vienna further up the Danube, coffee and cake is practically an institution in Budapest. And there’s nowhere better to try them than Gerbeaud - the elaborate décor alone makes this café well worth a visit.
To really feel like a local, make a trip to the thermal baths. The relaxed Gellért Baths are a triumph of Art Nouveau grandeur and, based on their sheer size, you can't miss the outdoor Széchenyi Baths. If unusual nightlife is your thing, the club nights at these baths are great fun.

Great place for history fanatics. Very happening place. All the architecture place are marvels. Takes time to see in detail. I liked the Buda castle. All the places are easy to go using the transportation. For Indian travellers I would recommend to eat at the Indian Palate Hotel. It is on the expensive side but definitely worth it.

Wonderful sights to visit. Buda Castle, Citadel, Opera House, the Churches, even government buildings are wonderfully impressive sights.
Budapest, in general is a bit more expensive than I would have guessed. Plenty of restaurants and plenty of bars but a bit on the unnecessarily expensive side.
Mini langos menu with a pint of Dreher beer - 26€ for one person.
Goulash with 2 beers - 36€
Pint of Guinness and a bottle of Dreher - 14€.

We had a couple of unpleasant experiences that would keep me...
We had a couple of unpleasant experiences that would keep me away. For example, we bought bus tickets and upon entry to the bus we had trouble finding the validation for an electronic ticket. We were almost immediately approached by an official, When we asked where the validation machine was but instead of helping us he gave us a ticket and made us pay a fine immediately. Clearly he did not like tourists and if that is the way they feel there are plenty of other places to go.

Many activities available- in the spheres of history, culture, music, culinary enjoyment and outdoor activities. Excellent public transport system and free for all over the age of 65, including Hungarian trains for trips out of Budapest. My highlights were: the Castle complex and Fisherman`s Bastion ( easily reached with frequent number 16 bus from Deak Ferenc Ter ), The House of Music with many interactive exhibits, the Shechenyi Baths near Heroes Square, and a visit to the impressive Parliament on the bank of the Danube. For music lovers I recommend classical music concerts at the List Academy of Music , just off Kiraly Street and also the Budapest Jazz Club with great performances on most nights, usually from 20:00 . A visit to the famous covered Market can be interesting although the prices there are exorbitant. And lastly, a sailing cruise on the Danube can be very relaxing and picturesque , especially in early evenings .

Great place. Easy to travel around with the trams and metro. Great eating places especially the coffee shops, chimney cakes and goulash. For something different - go to the ruin bars!!
If you go Szechenyi Thermal Spa, make sure you take your own towel and flip-flops. They do not hire out these items - only sell them - which works out rather expensive!

I would advise against going to Budapest at the present time...
I would advise against going to Budapest at the present time (October 2026) and until the chaotic passport control situation is properly sorted out. The new EU entry/exit system has clearly overwhelmed the authorities. There are too few desks and not all of those are manned. Processing of each traveller is excruciatingly slow and we queued for almost two hours. Pity because Budapest is one of Europe's great capitals with masses of things to see and do, and fantastic transport.

Great hotel with very friendly and courteous staff with a lovely breakfast to start the day. Just outside the City centre but very well connected by Budapests excellent transport system. Lovely pool and spa facilities allowing us to rsst and recharge after long days of sightseeing and enjoying the city's charms. Would recommend to anyone visiting Budapest.
