Overlooking the tranquil waters of Lough Leane, colourful Killarney is a top Irish tourist destination. The UNESCO-listed Killarney National Park surrounds Muckross House, a stately home sitting in large grounds with a traditional farm.
A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. This 15th-century stone fortress once housed the O’Donoghue clan, one of whom reportedly lives at the bottom of the lough.

In Killarney itself, horse-drawn carts roam narrow streets whose Irish pubs offer great nightlife. Impressive St Mary’s Cathedral has a towering spire and somewhat dark interior. The local gaelic football team play at Fitzgerald Stadium, and more sports can be enjoyed at Killarney riding stables and the nearby golf and fishing club. There is also a popular racecourse.

It was very good.
Just one point - I miss booked the Lake hotel.
I wanted to stay on Sunday 15th June (And I did, thank to the people at the hotel).
But seemingly I booked the 19th October. (Don't ask me why - have not a clue).
Please send me confirmation you have cancelled it.
Thank you,

The town is too touristy. The afternoon traffic is absolutely horrendous. I would not stay in the city again. I would try to stay in the surrounding area given how beautiful the Ring of Kerry and the national park is.

Friends recommended to visit Killarney at least once - and that we did. We stayed just one night.
We had a beautiful walk around ross castle and the Killarney National Park, but we did not like the city center. The tourists we're shipped in with dozens of busses and we decided to keep of the main roads. We found a lovely bar & restaurant next to St. Mary's called "The lane" with affordable prices and not too full.

Great central point to access all that Killarney has to offer. We would recommend three nights in Killarney. The only reason we had two nights was because we had other accommodation booked in the area totalling 5 nights in the region.

The horse and carriage ride through the National Park was wonderful! The castle tour was great and very informative. The shops were filled with delightful, good-quality items, and the restaurants were excellent. Would love to come back! The Gap of Dunloe was spectacular. This was our second stay at the Arbutus. The hotel is well located in the town centre, near the railway station. The public rooms are beautiful, traditional interiors in Georgian style, with elements of Celtic ornamentation. There are numerous examples of 'Killarney furniture' in the hotel, a distinctive form made of locally-growing arbutus wood with marquetry inlay. The hotel bar has the character of a tradtional Irish pub with some excellent decor, including an art deco fireplace. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Fantastic location, close to town centre. Plenty to do inside and outside of the hotel. Hotel room was amazing, had a family suite with well equipped kitchen. Lots of activities each day to keep the children entertained. Excellent buffet breakfast. Staff always very friendly and helpful. Pool was great too.
