South is the historic quarter with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Genova is a city steeped in history.
Genova is a city steeped in history. There are some beautiful churches worth visiting. There is a very interesting antiques shop at the Galaria Principale. Food varied in quality. Restaurants do not open until 7pm wheres Cafes were open throughout the day.

Hot and humid for our visit. Must visit Via Garbaldi palazzi, Doges Palace, piazza de Ferrari and shopping around the piazza, Piazza San Lorenzo, history is amazing. Loved eating outside at ‘pop up’ restaurants. Took a day cruise to Portofino but should have taken the half day cruise direct to Portofino.
Be mindful of your surroundings in alleyways and at Porto Antiquo on a quiet night but loved eating outside at the restaurants there.
The station is not an easy walk to the hotel with large luggage even if it’s 900metres so be prepared to pay €15 for a taxi, but worth it in the heat and humidity with crowds and narrow pavements.

Genoa strikes me as an under-the-radar destination in Italy.
Genoa strikes me as an under-the-radar destination in Italy. As recommended by the Michelin guide, it is worth a detour. The old city is interesting with its many narrow streets and wonderful churches and palaces. Visiting the market was also an interesting experience. The food was great and the people were friendly. The city has a nice, lively, but not hectic vibe. While here, take a boat trip to San Fruttuoso and Portofino. It's a great way to spend a day.

We liked Genova only for a short walking tour to Porta Soprana, Piazza de Ferrari, Genoa cathedral (Cathedrali di San Lorenzo), and House of Christopher Columbus. Compared to Rome, this city wasn't what we expected. We chose this city to go to Portofino by boat which was very much worth it.
There's Genova Aquarium which is nice for families. Next to the Train station (Piazza Principe) is a nice restaurant called HB cafe with delicious food and ice cream. We liked it very much.

We like visiting the historic buildings and churches which...
We like visiting the historic buildings and churches which abound in Genoa much of which has remained little changed since the 15th/16th century and is now encircled by 19th century property. Many of the places of tourist interest are in the pedestrianised area. We found it worth thinking about the shape of the town (basically a cup shape around the harbour) in planning our visits as by the end of the day some of the cobbled streets/alleyways seemed to get steeper! Opening time information on listings was sometimes inconsistent (it was a national holiday weekend) but the websites of the main attractions were accurate. Information for smaller churches was often wrong but the town is compact and it was fairly easy to get access eventually by trying doors were each time we passed.

A perfect stay for one or two nights. The hotel is in the old town and basically near to all sights of Genoa.
I liked the concept of the fancy rooms. If Genoa than I can recommend Teseo.
One thing that I was not immediately aware; In the entrance of this building you need to bell the right number, instruction are written - but I missed that. However, maybe tourist who travels in Italy often, they know it.

The apartment was absolutely amazing! Everything is brand new, high-quality, and beautifully designed, with a super-modern renovation. It’s on a high floor with an elevator, and the location is simply perfect.
