FAQs about hotels in Verona

A Shakespearean Fairytale

A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalised in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.

Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.

Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheatre which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theatre whose remains are partly beneath a house.

The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which offer cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laidback and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.

Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

4 days was perfect time to take in the sights, and relax in between. A experience of a lifetime to see the opera at the arena. Everyin verona is within walking dis so very easy to get around. It was very hot in the town when we stayed, so lucky our apartment had good air con, and was very central, we were able to pop back for a cool down and a rest. We booked a small food walking tour which was a great way to find hidden gems and local spots, our guide was born in verona and was able to tell us about attitudes and culture as well as the best local places to eat and shop.

Verona is such a lovely city, fabulous places to eat, and wonderful streets to stroll. We were there in June/early July. Getting up early to beat the crowds and the heat was the way to go. A visit to the Arena for the Opera is a must.

A city, but not too big.

A city, but not too big. Can see most, if not all sites by foot. Only 1.5 hours from Venice and Milan. Only 2-3 hours to Dolomites. Only 30 mins to Lake Garda. If Opera festival is on, a must visit. You don’t need to buy the expensive seats, great view from anywhere but some might need a cushion. Compared to Milan and Venice, restaurants are reasonably priced. Had a rental car so can’t comment about public transport. Car parks are expensive but probably not much more for full day parking in cities far less worth visiting in the UK. Had no issues with parking security. Some of the car park entrances are tight if you have SUV-sized vehicle. Only downside for us was the hot weather but you can’t blame the city for that.

Do not go in the summer.

Do not go in the summer. The city itself is gorgeous, of course, like most Europeans cities - lots of history and architecture. It was sweltering in June and it made it really hard to want to go explore when you're just sweating the whole time. The Hop On Hop Off bus we caught in Piazza Bra was really fun, if not a little hair raising because Italians drive like maniacs LOL holy crap it's lawless there. We went to Juliet's balcony and statue and still don't understand why touching the boob of a statue of a 13 year old girl is supposed to be good luck. Guisti Garden is nice but it's expensive to get in for a small garden but I think we missed the inside the house part, so maybe that was worth the cost. (the map wasn't totally clear) Also, I don't know what Italians have against air conditioning but public transportation in the summer is not fun when the bus is packed and they don't put on the AC! The hotels are pretty stingy with the AC also and most of the restaurants have patio seating and no AC inside.

Beautiful city and loads of historic places to visit. If visiting make sure you buy a Verona card from the local tourist office as this allows you free travel on all local buses and free entry into most tourist places, worth every penny. Would love to visit again soon but in the cooler months.

We had 2 days in Verona and for me it was enough.

We had 2 days in Verona and for me it was enough. Took a walking tour to find our feet and then walked round on our own with a Tourist information map looking at the sights not included on the tour. It's not the prettist place I've been to, but if I was into opera I might have found it a bit more exciting. Not somewhere where I will return to, but glad I've seen it.

The hotel is in an absolutely amazing location and the staff were fantastic. The hotel was really clean and the rooms were comfortable and much bigger than expected for Italy. The roof top bar was also amazing and we LOVED our daily greetings from Mia (the dog!). Would absolutely stay here again and would recommend to anyone visiting Verona.
