A Shakespearean Fairytale
A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.
Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.
Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.
The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.
Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

I went to Verona to embrace the people and culture for 2 weeks. I had the time; for some it might have been too long of a time...however, because I had no set agenda it was the perfect adventure for me, whether it was going to an opera, people watching, shopping, exploring my well established neighborhood, eating a great meal, or cooking a great meal in my apartment, visiting the arena, seeing Juliette's Casa, or going to a cooking class.... it was a grand adventure for me! I even took an water color painting class that showed off my creativity!

The location near Roman arena was good, however standard of the room was poor. The bathroom had mould in the shower, nowhere to put soap. The shower rose could only adjust up&down so it sprayed everywhere. The sliding shower doors did not align and water sprayed onto floor. The plumbing under sink leaked and sprayed onto your feet. No towel racks. Towels paper thin. TV did not work. The drain in the shower was very slow draining due to not being cleaned of hair and soap.

We thought a day would be enough to see everything but we were wrong! There was a collection of Roman and Medieval things to see but best of all just people watching whilst having a coffee was the highlight. Gorgeous little streets to wander . Verona is easy to do on foot and the pedestrian areas are lovely. We found eating out very reasonable - breakfast pastry and coffee cheaper than at home. The railway station is ideally placed to take you for days out. Venice is only just over an hour away and Lake Garda about 20 minutes. Tickets are cheap and trains are clean and reliable. We were delighted with Verona and would recommend it for a few days or for longer if you use it as a base for getting around.

Adored the Verona old town based in Piazza Erbe. So safe, clean and friendly. Busy vibe but not too crowded. Easy to find more space in charming back streets and along riverside.
Guardini Gusti absolute gem of a garden - green, cool and calm after trip up funicular at Ponte Pietra and a morning walking in warm sunshine.
Small and compact so easy to navigate old town.
Superb day trips to wine festival at Bardolino using local cheap ATV buses.
Splendid group day trip to Sirmione & Lazise with Ways Tours.

We stayed two nights as a family of four traveling by train through Italy. The hotel is conveniently close to the central station Porta Nuova. The historic center is in walking distance as well. Despite being so central, the hotel is very quiet. The room was big enough, clean and comfy. The check-in was a self-check-in and the reception was closed most of the time. (No problem for us.) Everything was easy and we were checked-in less than twenty minutes after rolling into Porta Nuova.

We stayed at Hotel Martini for one night during our trip through Italy and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel was comfortable, clean, and well located for exploring Verona. The highlight was definitely the breakfast, which offered a great selection of fresh and delicious options to start the day.
The staff were welcoming and everything was straightforward from check-in to departure. A very solid choice for a short stay in Verona, and we would happily stay here again.

We are travelling around France and Italy for 8 weeks and this has been our best experience so far. The apartment was beautiful and our host, Michela, was fantastic. She presented us with a map and talked us through bus routes and a brilliant tour around Verona and suggested other excursions. She couldn’t have been more helpful and has been the first host to take time out to do this.

The host lives in the same building and she was super super nice with everything, even let us leave the luggage after check out. The apartment is very good, confortable and very big for three or four people. Very good location in the center of Verona. First or second floor with stairs but it is common in Italy.
