FAQs about hotels in Verona

A Shakespearean Fairytale

A darling of Shakespeare, beautiful Verona is the literary home of Romeo and Juliet. The medieval families of Montague and Capulet immortalized in the tragic play did actually exist and some buildings relating to the Montagues are still present.

Sorry to disappoint, but the place purporting to have been Juliet's house in Verona was not actually where she lived. However, it’s still worth suspending reality for a while and stepping out onto the balcony to see if Romeo turns up.

Another of the must-see Verona sights is the Arena, a largely intact Roman amphitheater which is now the spectacular setting for outdoor summer operas. Smaller Roman relics include the stone bridge that crosses the river by the Roman theater whose remains are partly beneath a house.

The city’s narrow streets house many cafes and restaurants which have cheaper fare than the touristy ones by the Arena, although admittedly the views are less impressive. Life in Verona is laid back and elegant, so expect to see some well-heeled Italians on a post-dinner passeggiata.

Verona Airport is a little out of town, so you’ll need to take a bus to get to your Verona hotel, apartment or B&B. Book with Booking.com for the best choice.

This is our second trip to Verona so we did a vineyard tour to 2 local wineries. We enjoyed trying the local wines and seeing the process. We spent time walking through all of the streets and piazzas this time, but for first-timers, I would recommend the Verona Card…EVERYTHING has an entry fee now. Even the Juliet House Courtyard is no longer free. The Arena, Bell Tower at Piazza Erbe, and the Santa Anastasia Church are worth a visit. And yes, the Juliet House, a fictitious place, is worth it if you have the card!

If not cultural events or some special occasion one-two days in Verona is fine. The Juliet breast is possibly most expensive in the world because touch is 5 EUR value. Arena is impressive and view from San Pietro hill is recommended. Good place for Insta pictures. Next time will cross Castle Bridge and visit the Castle. Should be nice. Lot of small authentic cafes and restaurants.

Fell in love with verona! Such a beautiful city.

Fell in love with verona! Such a beautiful city. We walked around 25mins up to Santuario Nostra Signora di Lourdes to see a view of the city. Was incredible and highly recommend. Especially as it’s not as common since we was one of the few at the top. Compared to Castel San Pietro which we walked 15mins up to see the sunset. Still an amazing experience bit plenty of people up here. Piazza del erbe and the colosseum were both vibes and all the buildings are so colourful and pretty.

A lot of tourists, loads. The city is very pretty, sometimes hard to see with huge groups of tourists plugged into head phones following flags. A shame that Juliet's balcony is very much a tourist trap. I went during the Easter holidays. Very expensive city. I liked the city better in the evening when it was quieter than during the day.

fantastic little city, July onwards is opera season and its warmer (When we went last time) just been in April, still nice. Went to Lake Garda, very nice, saw the football, Verona v Fiorentina for around 24 Euros each, restaurants are great, amazing value just off the central square and as you would expect great pasta and pizzas, very reasonably priced (Better of the main peripheral of the Amphitheatre)

Of our 10 days in Italy this was our favourite stay, communication from Daniel was top notch, kept in touch from the moment we made the booking and whilst we were staying to check everything was ok. Our room was lovely, bed was huge and very comfortable, we loved the snack room where you could help yaself 24/7. The hotel was right next to the river and very close to the main square. We felt very safe walking around at night time.

Verona is the most beautiful city in Italy, and the Hotel Porta Palio is great value for the price. It has a free private parking garage on site. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The hotel is just an 8-10 minute taxi drive from old town Verona (8-12 Euros). The hotel breakfast was great, and we enjoyed our stay.
