I visited Shirakawa Village, famous for the traditional Japanese houses. Even though there were a lot of foreigners, very few shops and shuttle bus accept cashless payments. I would say Shirakawa villagers make more money if cashless is available.

RELAXING QUIET GIFU!

RELAXING QUIET GIFU! We just wanted to visit other places in Japan. We have been to Japan a few times already. We like going to these kind of relaxing places. We went hiking, we walked everywhere since everything was walkable. We had so much local food and sake of course! ONSEN! Nature everywhere! We also met some of my aunt's family and friends. It felt like a home. We love everything in here. We could have stayed longer but will be back and will see the other sights. Thank you GIFU! :)

Gifu is a small but exciting city that offers great walks...

Gifu is a small but exciting city that offers great walks during the day in Gifu Park and along the river, and great restaurants and bars at night - make sure to check out Tamamiya-cho near the station.

We stayed in Gifu for 4 nights visiting our son.

We stayed in Gifu for 4 nights visiting our son. There was a good variety of restaurant & bars in alleys near where we stayed, as well as some great hidden places in the suburbs. Gifu Castle and the restored old town are the main tourist attractions, as well as bird fishing on the river at night. It is also a great gateway for a visit Takayama (about 2.5-3 hour drive to Takayama/Okuhida). Overall, Gifu is a nice small provincial city and close to Nagoya and Kyoto by train. Two nights and a full day would probably be enough time to explore it unless you have a reason to stay longer like us

This is a love hotel, but is fine for travellers passing through. Check in is strictly from, if you come a bit early you will have to wait. It was a bit tricky to communicate with staff, but they had a translating device. The room was very spacious, with a big bathroom with hair dryer and hair straighteners. There was a small room with a massage chair. The decor is very dated but it's all part of the experience. We loved the elevators 😅 There is parking available and a few restaurants in walking distance.

To be honest, it feel like stay at your long distance aunt's house in Gifu. Everything was clean and well organized. "Aunty" took the effort to wakes up early and bit us goodbye at 430am; really heart warming. Since she speaks mandarin so communication part no problem at all. Even though host have a cat and a dog; they are well behaved and does not cause any discomfort.

Quirky! There was a lot of memorabilia around as the hotel has a VERY long history. The staff were very welcoming and gave us coffee when we were early. They had a nice Onsen. The room was beautiful and massive with a big seating area. It was spotless.
