Really convenient location for those hiking the Nakasendo trail. I didn't realize it at the time of booking, but the trail runs right through the campground. We had a lot of fun cooking dinner and breakfast. The setup makes it really convenient to just do the fun parts of cooking, and cleanup is really easy as well in the main lodge. The tents are very spacious and have heaters incase it gets cold at night. Additionally, our tent had a great view which overlooked the valley and mountains.

My party of 5 total stayed only one night when hiking the Magome to Nagiso section of the Nakasendo. Proximity to train station and Nakasendo trail was the original selling point, but we fell in love with the place as soon as our host toured us around. It feels like staying at an artsy bed and breakfast, except you provide the breakfast and you get the entire place to yourself. There's small, delightful touches of personality and hospitality every where you look. We did not want for anything. Our sweet host met us at the front door to enter data from our passports and then gave us a walk through of the building. Two toilets and two showers was perfect for a group of 5. Fridge and other kitchen appliances work great. We listened to the CD disc player on the wall while reading the books and it was a lovely experience. The futons were placed very thoughtfully according to our parties needs. In addition to the trail and train station, there's a grocery store, a historic bridge and a cafe all within a couple minutes walk. The patios were a great hang out spot and we saw monkeys near the river around 7am. Honestly, I wish we had stayed longer but our plans dictated we move on. Next time we will try to book a few more nights so we can explore the area more!

This accommodation is clean, well appointed and lovely. The attention to detail is spot on. The architecture and views are stunning. It is close to the Nakasendo Trail, coffee and groceries. Nagiso is a small town and there are few restaurants which made us appreciate the kitchen even more. It is easy to get around by foot, bus or train.

We had a wonderful stay at Ame Nakasendo. The hosts were incredibly warm and welcoming, and communication was always easy and quick. The home itself is absolutely beautiful, thoughtfully designed, spotless, and very peaceful. Being right on the Nakasendo Trail made our stay feel extra special and it was the perfect base for exploring the area. Truly, I wanted to move in and stay forever 😂 The optional breakfast was delicious and very high quality, and we really appreciated having drinks available for purchase. Coffee and tea were included, and the kitchen was well stocked with plenty of cookware and dishes. The washer and dryer were also a huge convenience during our trip. Even though the house is about a 15 minute walk from town, it was simple to call a taxi when needed since it gets quite dark at night. Overall, it was an exceptional stay and we would happily return. Highly recommend.

We were only in this property for one night, but I wished we could have stayed longer. The house is absolutely beautiful and authentic. It's very close to the station, so very convenient! The art on the sliding doors is gorgeous, the kitchen is very big, the rooms are spacious, and there's a beamer, which we used for watching a show and winding down after a day full of hiking in Nagiso. I couldn't recommend this place enough.

This place is unique! We stayed there after walking along Nakasendo from Magome to Tsumago. The hotel is located in an amazingly beautiful nature. It offers a transfer to Nakatsugawa and Nagiso train stations. The food is varied and very tasty. Excellent drinks are offered. It has a very beautiful onsen. There is the option of a private onsen in complete privacy. We are grateful to the staff for a wonderful stay.

Nagiso is a small village , and a convenient stop when walking from Magome and Tsumago when hiking the nakasendo. ( accommodation in those two villages is very difficult to obtain). Excellent cafe across from the station but there was only one restaurant open on the night we were there , mid week.

Nagiso itself is an unremarkable city, but the surrounding area, the so called 'Japanese Alps' is fantastic. One can visit Tsumago, a preserved ancient Japanese style village, where one can even book a ryokan with kaiseki (excellent Japanese style) dinner, for an overnight stay. The famous 'Nakasendo trail', a 10 km walk in gorgeous countryside, from Magome to Tsumago is a major attraction of the region. Magome can be reached by public bus from Nagiso or Tsumago.

Visited three areas this time: Narai-juku/ Tsumago-juku/...

Visited three areas this time: Narai-juku/ Tsumago-juku/ Magome-juku: all are very nicely reserved areas and the hotel is located close except for Narai-juku (70km away). Had a 100% Soba twice at lunch nearby : both are very good. Dropped in several Michi-no-Eki and bought local foods and items at half of them.
