The location was the best part of the hotel and reason why we selected it as it was on top of the Hommachi Station which was a direct route from Shin-Osaka Shinkansen station and the Expo 2025. There was also a Family Mart convenience store on the 2nd floor of the hotel, which was great. There was also a direct elevator from the ground floor to the subway station right outside the entrance. Breakfast was actually good, with a variety of Western and Japanese choices. I liked that they had allergen labels on their food, which was great for my sons with peanut allergy. The Onsen was actually better than expected as they did have two Onsen rooms, one with the hotter water.

We absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Universal Port Osaka! If you’re visiting Universal Studios Japan with kids, this is hands-down one of the best places to stay. It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the entrance, which made early mornings and late evenings at the park way easier — no stress getting in or rushing to catch a train home with tired kids. 👦👦👦 Great for Kids (and Parents Too!) The hotel really caters to families — our boys were thrilled the moment we walked in. The lobby had fun decorations and playful music that set the mood for the trip. We didn’t stay in a character-themed room, but even our regular room was spacious and super clean. There was enough space to spread out, which made a huge difference after long days at the park. They also had kid-friendly toiletries, pajamas, and slippers — small touches, but they made the boys feel special. 🍳 Breakfast The breakfast buffet was huge 🧺 Amenities That Help The laundry room was super helpful with three boys — we used it mid-trip, and it worked great. Staff were friendly and polite, and check-in was smooth. There’s also a convenience store right in the building, which saved us a few times for late-night snacks and drinks.

The hotel was wonderful. We stayed here for attending the World Expo, and it is a very convenient location since the subway line it is on, is also the line that goes straight to the Expo. The room was reasonably sized, so large enough for two people. The staff members were very helpful when it came to helping us with retrieving, and then forwarding, our luggage. The attached breakfast was not overly impressive, but it was tasty and had a decent variety. The bar inside the hotel has very nice staff, and a nice ambiance. This place has a very nice attached onsen, that has morning hours reserved for hotel guests only. As a hotel guest, you can also enjoy the entire spa experience (once its opens to the public) for a hotel-guest price.

FAQs about hotels in Osaka

A Stronghold of Japanese Culture

At the meeting point of river and sea, huge Osaka combines forward-thinking development and sure-footed tradition. This is symbolised in its temple-like, 16th century castle, guarded by ramparts and enlivened by vibrant spring cherry blossom. Dominating the surrounding skyline is Osaka Business Park, a reminder of the city’s strong role in the Japanese economy.

However, the most striking skyscraper is the Umeda Sky Building - 2 towers connected by a rooftop terrace offering far-reaching views. The nearby Osaka and Umeda train stations are linked by underground shopping centres, while the shops of Shinsaibashi’s America Village appeal to a younger crowd. Dōtonbori’s neon lights promote more shops, as well as restaurants considered the best in Osaka. In a city touted as Japan’s culinary capital, that’s quite an accolade.

The Tsūtenkaku tower overlooks Tennōji Park, home of the Osaka Municipal Museum of Art. Another nearby park houses Shitennō-ji, one of Japan’s oldest Buddhist temples.

The Kyocera Dome Osaka is a shrine of baseball, and more thrills are at waterfront Universal Studios Japan, the country’s 2nd largest theme park. Also by the sea is Kansai International Airport, on its own artificial island.

The capsule hotel was invented in Osaka, and alongside this type of accommodation, Booking.com also offers luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels and traditional ryokans.

    Love this city!

Love this city! Beautiful with many different areas to visit, very clean, many beautiful high-end shops, older areas with great restaurants and older charm, train stations easy to locate with Google Maps, shopping excellent, can easily take the Shinkansen to Osaka from Tokyo. We loved Osaka!

Osaka is great for people that like the busy city life. Shopping could be an adventure. It is near neighboring attraction cities such as Kyoto and Nara, which could be reachable within an hour or two. One can join locals favorite restaurants and experience the real deal.

The Hotel we stayed at was super convenient to shops, train stations and food outlets. Loved it all. My eldest son mastered the trains, shinkansen, buses, trams, ferry and attractions early on our trip so was navigator every time we wanted to go somewhere. It didn't matter whether we were travelling in peak times or late at night. The Osaka shopping strip is huge, and while I do love the setup/foods of Tsukiji Outer Market in Tokyo and Nishiki Market, Kyoto, Osaka offers so many choices that we're glad we chose to spend our longest time there and made our day trips from there to other places.

Since it was summer when we went there, it was hot, I was sweating, but if it were a little bit colder, then it would be perfect. Train timings are exact, you should be on time, though flat forms are a little bit confusing. Locals in Osaka are helpful, and Google Maps is so helpful too. It was our first time visiting Osaka, and it was through Google map that we were able to reach our destination. I suggest you take a wifi or eSIM card upon arrival before leaving the airport.

although the city itself didn't have a lot to do in comparison to others, it was very handy for day trips. i was able to day trips to nara and kyoto. the food in osaka was very good and there were some really tasty and affordable food spots dotted around the city. i think if i'd had more time in japan i would've spent less time in osaka and done 2-3 nights in kyoto and then stayed in kobe and hiroshima instead, though if anyone is every considering going to japan, osaka is still a must.

We stayed in 3 different hotels within 1km of Namba Kansai...

We stayed in 3 different hotels within 1km of Namba Kansai Airport station during 10 day trip. This is the main transport hub in Namba with tourist information office at the front facing out onto the pedestrianised plaza. GU shopping level 6 is across the street, bus to Aquarium is on the corner of the street, subway navigation needed from here to get to Osaka Castle and Universal Studios. The other Namba station to go to Nara is a 500m walk via underpass concourse accessed near the TIO. Keep in mind the train ticket to Kansai is bought on 2nd floor and mainline trains go from Umeda not Namba. Take train to Kyoto from Umeda. Kintetsu line at 2nd Namba station to Nara. Beware of restaurants who charge a service fee if you don't order a drink and when the drink is more than the service fee, annoying when you have childre. Osaka is not a pretty city but it is a functional one for transport hub, food variety and sightseeing. Oppressively hot to near 40 Celsius in early July.

Situated a bit far from Namba station (10 min walk), the hotel is located in a quiet, safe spot near to Namba City and Namba Parks. The two-bedroom suite is good for a family of 4 or 5 max, given that it's hard to find similar suite-type rooms in other Japanese hotels that offer so much room and flexibility. There was also a washing machine in the bathroom, which is helpful for travelers going across Japan for a long time.
