I liked everything actually starting from staff: we booked the hotel the same day as departure, arrived 2 hours earlier than check-in time, but the staff warmly welcomed us and let us get to the room immediately. The room was really comfy with a big bed, enough storage space, and a spacious washroom. The shower was extremely good. Also, we had a balcony with a mountain view. Whenever we needed smth staff was so helpful. What I liked the most was the exceptional cleanliness. Even if we asked just to change the towels, we returned to a super clean and neat room. Location of the hotel is great, many eateries were nearby, a good store with a great variety of products as well. We lived in a 5 minute walk from the square where we celebrated New Year) Breakfast was included, not a super big choice, but it was decent, IMHO Recommend this place for other tourists. Definitely good value for money.

Breakfast was great, lots of options, it was nice to have a 24-hour open restaurant right at the hotel. Live music during breakfast added to a great experience.

Everything was excellent. We arrived early due to our flight schedule, but since the hotel was fully booked, we were unable to check in early. However, they provided luggage storage, which allowed us to have breakfast and start our first day’s tour without any hassle. The room was always clean, with complete toiletries that were regularly replenished. The lady at the reception was especially helpful, and the entire staff was very responsive to our requests. Whatever we needed, they always went the extra mile to assist us. The location was also excellent—close to restaurants, cafés, and money exchange shops, making everything very convenient during our stay.

The location was good for me, as I stayed for a long period and could walk everywhere within 40 minutes. The room was spacious, the personnel kind, and the breakfast good. The price was excellent for Almaty.

It’s good and value for money

I chose Otrar Hotel because I wanted to experience a piece of Almaty’s history rather than just another modern hotel, and it truly felt like walking down memory lane. The vintage Soviet-era interiors, grand lobby and old USSR charm have been preserved, giving the hotel a unique character that is becoming increasingly rare. Otrar was once one of Almaty’s most prominent hotels, and staying here feels like experiencing a small part of the city’s past. Its location opposite Panfilov Park and the Ascension Cathedral makes it perfect for exploring the historic centre on foot. For the price, the stay was excellent, the breakfast was good, and I felt it offered great value. If you appreciate history, nostalgia and authentic character over modern luxury, Otrar Hotel is absolutely worth it.

The first room had some weird cigarette smell, but we changed the room and it was clean and comfy. Staff is so welcoming and friendly. They accommodated all of our needs and made sure our stay as comfy and safe.

Amazing breakfast, great and helpful staff!

The staff is very friendly and kind, they helped me to bring the stroller with my baby all the way up to the third floor. Rooms are very clean and tidy. The location is very convenient.
