Charitha and his family were great hosts and extremely attentive to all our needs (ready to go above and beyond). The food was delicious, the room was large and clean with an air conditioning that worked almost too well, there is a seating area in the garden from which you can hear birds and witness monkeys walking along the electrical wires. The property is walking distance (30 min) from Owagiriya Natabun Viharaya (Buddhist temple ruins) and as we were on our way Charitha kindly gave us a lift, as well as to another destination later during our stay. Both the father and mother are absolute sweethearts, and are more than happy to sit down with you for a chat (I had a little well needed Sinhalese crash course). From what I can see they are building more rooms/bungalows and a restaurant in the back, but as of February 2025 it truly had that quaint local feel I look for when I travel.

My mother and I had the most amazing stay at the Gal Oya Lake Club. First off I want to give a special thanks to Dinesh who was extremely helpful and accommodating. He putt me in contact with a number of different drivers (for reasonable prices) throughout my travels in Sri Lanka (and not only to Gal Oya) - which relieved me from quite a bit of stress. He was also extremely helpful when I started moving my dates around to avoid the rain (which didn’t end up being so bad, oops), allowing us to cancel our last night free of charge since we had arrived in the area two days earlier than the original date planned (unfortunately the rooms were not longer available at Gal Oya Club so we had to go somewhere else until our first booked night at the Club, but they allowed us to arrive as early as we wanted on our check in date to enjoy the facilities). And wow for the facilities, super beautiful clean rooms and the service was excellent. I spent a lot of time just sitting by the water writing post cards and reading - it was just so peaceful with the sounds of birds. I highly recommend using the kayaks to paddle around, and if you’re lucky a fisherman will be doing the same thing! They also helped organize a boat tour, making sure our guide on board had binoculars (essential if you truly want to appreciate the colours of the birds). I unfortunately did not see any elephants swim (to be expected as the levels of the water were high - in February), but I did see one munching away on an island. My mother also would like to mention the massage she had was the best she’s ever gotten. All in all, highly recommend!!

The room and property are clean, nice and comfortable. The breakfast is delicious. The owner is a husband and wife and they couldn't be more hospitable. They have a dog and cat, we love animals. They bought them out when we asked it we can see and play with them. We would return here again. I highly recommend staying here if your in the gal oya area. Really nice people and stay.

We enjoyed our stay at the villa, it was clean and comfortable. The owner was lovely, gave us food recommendations and helped arrange tuktuks.
