Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous.
Ella has the most spectacular location, really gorgeous. The train trip was wonderful. The waterfalls all around are lovely. The stores in town were fun. But we were surprised by how many tourists there were, how crowded and overdeveloped. The giant outdoor screens, the competing loud music, the catering to western travelers made it less fun than other areas of Sri Lanka.

Nice little town, you can do some nice outdoor activity such as trekking to little Adam’s pick and zip line, see the waterfall, the famous nine arch bridge, enjoy some good meals in one of the restaurants on the main road. Rice&curry at the Chill cafè is very good, the dream cafe has an international cuisine so I had a chicken wrap also really good, instead at The Barn I had a really good overnight oat breakfast. You can also take a cooking class some restaurants offer this activity three times a day 11am, 4pm and 7pm or you can also enjoy a yoga class usually you don’t need to book classes are at 8 am or 4 pm. This is such a nice town, good and plenty of food options. Lots of bars and the surrounding is very beautiful. You get spoiled here with waterfalls, hikes and so much greenery. Ella is a chilled laid back kind of place like Bali used to be, However the TukTuk Mafia are despicable rude, price gouging and trying to rip off every tourist. If you go to Ella take your own transport. You can rent your own TukTuks and Scooters. I encourage people to use Uber andPickme it works in Colombo. Honest TukTuk drivers are bullied in Ella As well as other tourist hubs in Sri Lanka.

Good starting place for visiting the mountain area of the country. Downtown noisy and inundated with tourists. Those who want a quieter but equally stunning settling but somewhat more limited in amenities may do better staying in a smaller and nearby setting. If you are taking the amazing train ride, do so ‘backwards’ and start in Ella area.

Nice Nature, but very touristic city center. Ella Rock walk is great, but you can leave out the entrance fee to the top - the view during the walk is way better, and the top can be very crowded. Little Adams Peak has a nice view on top, but the whole way is full of people who want to sell you stuff & a lot of tuktuks cross you while you are walking. That’s not really enjoyable. The Zip Line there is also overrated and expensive, wound not recommend that. Walking at the train tracks was a great experience. And explore the restaurants in the city, don’t go in the overcrowded places. I was at the Lion restaurant, which has great service, an amazing view(!) and really good food.StefanieAustria

Very comfy beds and good facilities. Also huge breakfasts! You can walk to Ella Rock from here, along the train track and also into town. Lots of bars, restaurants etc close by, around a 15-20 minute walk. Make sure you have more than just flip flops with you. Beware, the road leading up to the hotel is not suitable for any cars. You can rent mopeds or a tuk tuk will take you up there but definitely don’t drive a car!
