Housed in a restored Dutch colonial building, Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel features 2 swimming pools, a huge garden and free parking on site. Ayurvedic treatments are available.

The perfect place to begin a family holiday - excellent staff, large tranquil safe surroundings. Huge shared pool and smaller shaded pool were a big hit with our children. The food at the in-house restaurant was exceptional and reasonably priced. The large gardens make this a wonderfully restful quiet place to stay, we loved it. Beautiful original features of the Dutch governor's house have been retained - there's also an on-site spa.

The great family room over 2 floors felt very luxurious! The staff were first class, the meals were amazing and the location was great for being on the sea and near other restaurants and beaches.

    I've been to Unawatuna 4 times/years and that beautiful place changes for worse. There is new oversized monster-hotel, water scooters, loud music, fireworks, higher prices... In last 2 years 90% of tourists are Russians - some restaurants are only in russian. Most likely, I am not going back.

    Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand.

    Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand. The part of the beach where I visited, the ocean gets quite deep very fast, and the waves seem to cary you in quite easily. I haven't seen any lifeguards or flags that would indicate the wave's condition, but local people were very kind to give information. If you like hiking, the city has a nice trail to a beach called Jungle beach. Trough the same trail, you can pass by the Japanese Peace Pagoda, and if you are lucky you might see monkeys and lizards. The trail is more or less 40 min one way. The restaurants from the hotels are very much on the coast, sometimes seems to close from the beach. But the food quality is good and affordable, and lots of these restaurants offer alcohol. I stayed one day in Unawatuna and it felt enough time to discover what the city has to offer.

    Its a great beach, much busier than it used to be. Some great places to eat, generally inland a bit so do some research. Perfect place if you want a 15min trip into Galle which is a must. Nice and safe

    I heard that this used to be a great beach. Unfortunately I do not think it is today. Very exploited and there are many beach places renting out sunbeds. They can get away with having (very) crappy toilets because there are new tourists every day, they do not need a good review. Having dinner on the beach was a strange experience, started out good but then a large company came and occupied the space next to us, ordering champagne, oysters and lobsters like there was no tomorrow, and we were forgotten about. There are plenty of other beaches in Sri Lanka that are much better.

    Easy to get to Galle and Secret Beach. Lots of shopping and busyness. Much different feel to other popular spots in SL If it's rainy season, then get out in the morning. The rain usually comes in the afternoon

    We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and had an extremely comfortable stay. The view from the hotel was fabulous and we were very close to the beach. The staff was nice enough to make arrangements for us to visit their sister property which overlooks the beach. The food was good and the staff was very supportive in getting customised meals for our 3.5 year old. Special mention and a big thank you to Tharanga, Dilrukshe, Mahender, Lahiru and Subadra. Highly recommend the hotel to those travelling to Unawatuna.

    The owners of this hotel are wonderful the staff are lovely and friendly, the rooms are spacious with very comfy beds and sofas. Wi-Fi is outstanding. Swimming pool huge. Omelettes are perfect and great coffee. Monkeys can be seen in the trees from the garden and the location is perfect it sits only a short walk from jungle beach which has a great restaurant and the beach is beautiful and the village on Unawatuna with loads of amazing beach restaurants and little shops.

    The Guest House is located on a central street of Unawatuna village. To reach the nearest magnificent beach you have to walk just 5-7 minutes, it's really very close. The rooms are equipped with air conditioners. More expensive rooms have anti-mosquito curtains over the beds. The House is quiet, nothing disturbed our night rest much. It's perfect for staying a couple of nights on your journey around Sri Lanka. But we were satisfied with living there for 2 weeks, too.

    Dandelion was a great guesthouse! The room was big and the owner was always extremely helpful, breakfast was also delicious each morning. We got the Sri Lankan option and loved it. It was about 10min walk to the beach which was fine and the walk was also very nice. the owner also had a generator which came in handy since we were working remotely and there were lots of power cuts in that time period.

    The best hostel I’ve ever stayed at in Sri Lanka, Everything was great.     We had an amazing room with a great sea view (room No 1), smelt gorgeous & had a birthday card waiting for me, lovely touch. Great location on the beach, the best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka & the hotel food was great. Attentive staff who were friendly & accommodating, they couldn't do enough for you.     Really lovely hotel, fantastic location and the service was brilliant! They had spare beach towels, hats and bags to make it easier to not get your things sandy, and free filtered water which was brilliant. We had such a long chat with the owner and he was so lovely and incredibly knowledgeable about Sri Lankan history and couldn't do enough for us!
