Our family had 2 rooms for 2 nights and we really enjoyed our stay! The location couldn't be better. We loved having a balcony and hearing the church bells ring. It was also fun to people watch away from the crowds. And even though it's in a busy square (and we were there on a weekend) the windows really blocked the sound from below. The real plus, however, is the staff. Everyone we came in contact with was so nice and helpful. The breakfast buffet was huge with so many offerings and the staff at breakfast were all lovely and ready to jump in and help at a moments notice. We enjoyed eating outside on the breakfast terrace. We would stay there again!
Opened in June 2012, Boutique Hotel Hippocampus is located within the UNESCO-protected Old Town of Kotor. It offers free Wi-Fi and a restaurant with a roof terrace overlooking San Giovanni Walls.

The photos and videos of Kotor don’t do it justice.
The photos and videos of Kotor don’t do it justice. This beautiful town resonated with me …. Nature, history, amazing seascape, landscape all around. At the time of our visit, there were not many tourists yet which was a bonus.
I walked all around Kotor just filling my senses with its beauty.
The scent of bbq meats coming from Tanjga, which is where we ate while we were in Kotor, filled the air. Amazing place and can’t recommend it enough. Huge portions, perfectly grilled meats and excellent staff and owner.
Definitely a place worth visiting again but staying longer the next time.

Very nice place with a lot of options to travel around. Fantastic views. We take free guided tours of Kotor itself and boat tours to Blue Cave. Other days we were traveling around Kotor by car (up to 2 hours driving) and places were fantastic.

We liked wandering round the old city - I would plan to go different times of the day as it can get swamped by cruise ship tourists and tiktokers. There isn't that much to do and I get the impression that Kotor is still getting its head around tourism. However, you can go look at the walls, the churches, the stairs of Kotor (and the cheese shop halfway up), the abandoned village behind the cheese shop, the Cat Museum and the Gallery of Solidarity. If you like your food, there are plenty of places to eat.
One thing I will say: if you don't have a car you might struggle to get to places outside of taxi range but you can organise tours to other places if you can find someone to take you. We asked around and were told not to bother with anything within Kotor itself and go to the following: Perast, Herceg Novi, Orjen, Zabljak, Gusinje and Shkodra Lake.

You will love this fairytale setting. mountains come right to the Oceanside. The wall city is so charming and endlessly fascinating. The history is abundant and the scenery just keeps giving.
You do have to dodge the cruise ships. The town gets very, very busy because of them. Also, the food is kind of uniform and stodgy.
Risotto everywhere, and not that great. Pasta everywhere and not that great. Pizza everywhere and not that great.

Kotor has a lot of fascinating history which is demonstrated by the stunning architecture. It is a coastal town with a beautiful mountainous back drop. We hiked up some of the nearby mountain hiking routes which gave magnificent views. We also swam in the bay on the same day. Not many places in the world that you can do this. Another wonderful thing about Kotor is the way the town looks after the cats that live within the city walls. They are truly loved, which is a mark of a great community. Would definitely visit again.

Beautiful boutique hotel. Has its own private beach and rooftop swimming pool.
Outstanding breakfast which you can have on the beach, lots of choice and all very tasty. Jelena, the owner was wonderful. If we ever stay in Kotor again this will be our first choice.
We loved the location as it felt isolated and had amazing views. It is a pleasant 50 minute walk to the center of kotor old town or a quick and cheap taxi ride.
A fantastic hotel that exceeded all my expectations. Close to the Old Town and all other tourist attractions, yet secluded and quiet. Very friendly staff, the receptionist is always smiling and helpful, the owner is ready to talk and help. The hotel and rooms are very clean and the breakfast is quite decent. Recommendation to everyone who wants to have top service accommodation in this wonderful city.
Enjoyed the location in the center of the old town of Kotor, it allowed you to immediately immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the vacation. The apartment is well renovated and has a nice view. There is also a small kitchen with dishwasher. Jaroslav, the owner of the apartments with his wife are very helpful people. They told us all the important information about Montenegro for tourists.
Hotel Cattaro is uniquely situated against the walls of Old Town Kotor. It’s restaurant is on the fortress ramparts overlooking a moat. It is very special and unique Hotel to be. The 2nd hotel restaurant is situated outdoors on the main old town square. Positioning is perfect. The staff were well mannered and informative.
The property and location itself were great. The pool was beautiful with amazing views. Quick and easy to walk to the Old town. The actual apartment was fine, basic but fine. This area of Montenegro is stunning.
