The end of May was busier than I expected with many more tourists on average for this time of year, perhaps because of the very high temperatures. Good quality and value for money street food as well as local mini-markets for water and essentials. Felt very safe in general. Two great central museums, also reasonably priced with good quality merchandise on sale. Alot of cafes in the city centre as well as side streets. However, very hilly with many steps to deal with beyond the centre which were also very desolate looking. A rather long and infrequent bus ride from the airport, though cheap. Great to walk around, lots of eateries and a really good buzz in the evenings. Take the fast ferry over to Gozo and hop on the open top bus for a tour of the island. Loads of history to Valletta, beautiful architecture, just a lovely city.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - Review score
The mix of old and new buildings is interesting.
The mix of old and new buildings is interesting. There are many stairs and hills to navigate although we saw all ages walking around. There are countless bars and cafes to enjoy and the prices are very reasonable. Great, short 4 day stay in the Centre of Valletta.
Great, short 4 day stay in the Centre of Valletta. We stayed at the Casa Asti which was ideally located in the heart of the city. A stone’s throw away from all the major WW2 museums. To get around the island, we used the excellent local bus service. 2€ per person gets you a one way trip to any other part of the Island. Great value. A perfect location for a 3-4 night stay.
A perfect location for a 3-4 night stay. One of the great harbour views which wows every time you see it. Lots of history to get stuck into; a stunning cathedral interior, glorious baroque churches in a country that takes its faith seriously, forts, Knights, great seafood. Money seems to go a long way v other European destinations. Everything seems to be a convenient 20 minute taxi ride away - Mdina and Rabat both excellent. We loved the history and the quirky streets.
We loved the history and the quirky streets. The buildings are lovely and everywhere was really clean. We ate at some lovely restaurants - our favourite being Nenu which is in a basement. Valletta is a tiny city but very vibrant. The Maltese people are very welcoming and always strive to make your experience a pleasant one.
