Fantastic reception team, they were so kind and helpful. I had my wallet stolen on the bus to Merida, and lots of fraudulent charges were made and they helped connect to the police who brought us to the right place to make the theft report I need for the bank. They also had great food recommendations. Location is fantastic, and the pool up top is such a nice lookout point.

The breakfast buffet was the best we have had during this visit to the Yucatan. The combination of fresh fruit and juice, along with the best muesli I have had in a long time. All of the staff were very helpful, particularly Alejandro. He helped us arrange a reasonable driver to visit Uxmal. The neighborhood that the Carsona is located is very interesting and has a number of very good restaurants and bars.

Merida is a wonderful, safe city in the Yucatan away from the beach tourist community. Great food, colonial architecture, and access to Maya ruins and a mellower coast. We had a exquisite meal at Yerba Santa Merida. Be sure to see the flamingos in Celestun, the ancient city of Uxmal, and take a dip in a cenote. Best to have a bunch of pesos for out of the city excursions.

Everyone we met in Mexico from east to west coast commented...

Everyone we met in Mexico from east to west coast commented on how safe Merida is, and they were right - we felt completely safe and welcome wandering the streets all evening - going to city restaurants and small neighbourhood bars alike. Don't miss the cenotes - well worth the drive - but just go in a collectivo and book a tuk-tuk once you get to Homun. Ask to see the natural cenotes, not Santa Barbara "amusement park" ones. We spoke to others who did those tours and they were underwhelmed compared to the great experience we had. Shout out to Bosco's Gym - great home-away-from home workout, with supplements available in single serving for travellers. Don't miss the taditional Yucatan liquor D'Aristi Xtabentún! Eat at Jose Rose - Soooo worth it! Talk to the artists selling on the streets - we met some really interesting people!

Merida is the safest, cleanest city I've been to in Mexico.

Merida is the safest, cleanest city I've been to in Mexico. Add to that an interesting history and extensive commercial outlets, and it's easy to fall in love with the city. Great restaurants, both local as well as American and Canadian chains. Driving was easy as there is a full ring road as well as wide multi-lane roads through the middle of the city. Beaches are clean (other than sargassum) and not crowded in nearby Progresso. Will definitely be back to this area!!

Three nights in Mérida is just the right amount of time.

Three nights in Mérida is just the right amount of time. To get to know and experience the city. It is a great pity that the end of carnival celebrations did not take place in the city, but at a fair located outside the city. The journey there was so long that we were unable to participate, and that was our motivation for coming to Mérida at that particular time.

Merida is the second safest city in North America.

Merida is the second safest city in North America. Safer than any city in the U.S. Second only to Quebec, Canada. And for the same reason: an indigenous population speaking its own language (Mayan), where crooks can't come and hide. And it's one of the oldest cities in the Americas. Great history, and a great base to visit the wonderful old Mayan cities nearby. It does get quite hot in the summer so consider visiting in spring, fall and especially winter. Wonderful people wonderful food, a must visit addition to your bucket list. If you go, you'll go back every year.

The staff let me check in 3 hours early which was just amazing! The pool was great and had really good opening hours. I didn’t have breakfast as I was leaving early but the breakfast was really reasonable. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Shower was hot which is not always the case in Mexico and the air con was fab. For £30 a night it was a great deal.
