The cabanas are amazing! This is our second time here and we love the cabanas and the hammock overlooking the jungle. This was why we came back.

Really a nice stay, my only critical feedback would be that some of the fixtures like chairs, cushions and furniture were a little worn and tired. Otherwise was a cute hotel and we enjoyed our short stay

Nice room and comfortable bed. The pool is very small though and needed cleaning. There are lots of noises coming from nearby construction. Prepare for early morning wake up’s from roosters next door.

The Pacha Tulum has very friendly staff speeking very good English ( even Italian) what is not always the case in other places. Rooms are clean and comfortable, bed was very good for my painful back. I prolonged my stay. This accommodation has good location in center close to most of the shopping places and restaurants . I recommend to hire bike or scooter to reach the public playa Playa Paraiso .

The hotel was very clean and intimate. If you are looking to be away from the party in Tulum, this location is great. A good spot to disconnect and lay around on the beach. I will also mention the staff was very kind and accommodating. Great communication before and during my stay!

Tulum was well worth the visit and would certainly visit again if we could afford to but having ZAR at 19:1 to US$ makes it extremely expensive for non-Americans or Europeans. Taxi fees are exorbitant as they have a complete monopoly there so would advise renting a car or scooter.
We ate at The Sexy Pizza - really good food and atmosphere; we visited Yal-Ku for snorkelling - excellent and the Four Cenotes - great choices.
Definitely recommend Tulum as it still has the small town vibe with plenty to do and is not nearly as commercial as Cancun.

My favourite places were the Mayan ruins, where you can also see loads of iguanas basking in the sun, and the stunning beach below.
Many beaches have been commandeered by expensive resorts but a cool and beautiful spot, which is free, is the beach at Euphoria beach club. You can buy drinks there but don't have to, though it has a good happy hour and it's a great spot to meet other travellers.
It is not easy getting back to downtown Tulum though from the hotel zone as the cheap public transport (collectivos) prioritises locals. I managed to get a taxi back to downtown for 100 pesos - most of the taxi drivers ask for 300 but some will haggle.

Casa Colibri Tankah was a perfect base for exploring.
Casa Colibri Tankah was a perfect base for exploring. Casa Altamar, right next door has good food and drinks on the terrace, Casa Cenote a little farther along the beach is a good choice as well. We visited Tulum ruins. Spectacular location and interpretation, but over run with tourists and infrastructure. Suggest visiting right when they open. Visited Coba, much less touristed, with expert local guide Jorge Moo who shared the latest understanding of Mayan culture. He is an excellent interpreter. We snorkeled at cenote Ya ak Bi Ha in dos Ojos. Amazing cavern with turquoise-browed motmots nesting in the walls. At Punta Laguna Reserve we saw black howler monkeys and spider monkeys in the wild. In Tulum, Succulent is a great small vegan restaurant. All of us prefer quieter, less crowded natural areas to the highly developed all-inclusive resorts of the Riviera Maya. It is still possible to experience these special places. It does take a bit of planning.

It is a dirty city, debris covered streets, looks like streets are used as dumping grounds when you ride from the airport to the city center. Prices are high, up there at south beach miami levels (17$ for a drink at a beach club on the beach? and beach isn't near as beautiful or spacious)
Every cenote has a different rule or regulation, different price and only take cash (we had to drive back to town to get some). However, cenote water is much better for swimming, however no place to really get any sun or relax at a cenote, unless you book a day at the amazing cenote beach club at the Hotel Shibari Tulum. That by far was the best decision we made on the trip, DJ, crystal clear water, great food and drinks.
as the beach main drag, zero side walks have you constantly out in traffic, pretty dangerous, even more so if you've been drinking. No real public beach access that we saw, meaning if you stay in town you'll need to pay a couple hundred bucks to get into a beach club

Tulum is very beautiful and unique and everyone is very friendly, however, the sewerage system is very out dated and you are not permitted to put toilet paper into the toilet - you have to throw the used toilet paper into the basket next to the toilet!!
There is only one place to access the beach for free in the main Tulum strip or you pay a price for beach entry because all the hotels have blocked off entry to the beach only for their guests.
The taxi drivers rip all the tourists off with ridiculously high prices; as an example, to ride 100m down the road to transport your luggage will cost you a min of $US20!!!

Over run with drug addicted Americans. People walk around half dressed and truely clueless to life. I do not understand why people flock here as it is WAY over priced and there is nothing to do other than drink and get high. Stay in Playa Del Carmen and visit tulum for a day

This is my favourite hotel in Tulum. I came back after 2 years. It's perfectly located. Next to panamera hotel where you have free access to the beach club, great resteaurant with excellent crew and swimming pool. Panamera offers a lof ot activities. It's a perfect spot if you want to party also - best places are walking distance or short taxi drive from Tuup. But neigbourhood is quiet, so you have peace to relax with no disturbunce. It's not so obvious in Tulum in this area.
It's a lovely smallish boutique hotel with large, spotlessly clean, modern rooms and public spaces. They serve an excellent breakfast. The wifi is good and the best hotel shower I have had in Mexico. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - the lady at breakfast (didn't get her name) and Daniel and Kevin on reception. Kevin is an absolute star - very helpful and gave me brilliant advice on bicycle rentals and sports bars.
Exquisite boutique hotel in the heart of the Hotel Area in Tulum! The staff were very welcoming and super courteous!
I forgot my iPad at the hotel beach and travelled, and the hotel staff helped ship it back to me (special shout out to Ulisses and Sergio - for their help and patience throughout the process).
We couldn’t have wished for a better time!
Quiet despite being in city. Great roof terrace. Simple but nice breakfast - best bread we have eaten in Mexico. Great location close to everything in Tulum pueblo. Off street parking for hotel guests. Comfy beds and clean. Carlos really helpful
