The exterior of the building doesn't look very interesting but in fact inside its quirky and really lovely and kind staff. Including the maintenance/cleaning staff you might meet in the elevator who were exceptionally friendly. The breakfast was really good and well worth paying for. The room was expensive but the whole city was expensive so in keeping with everywhere else.

It's a very interesting city, very cosmopolitan, easy access to other places in Europe, plenty of bars, restaurants, etc. Lots of students around. Quite compact city centre, lots of good shops. Market is great.

Great vibe. Lively even in February. Easy to get around. easy to find places to go out. Bike hire and you are out of town in about 20 minutes. Beautiful old centre for roaming around in and going into lots of independent shops. Great book shop in the Centre Broese & Kemmick with an extensive English section!!

Quaint old town that you could spend hours just wandering through appreciating the scenery and the canals, the bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Cathedral and its tower are impressive, as is the Museum Speelklok. Lots of good coffee shops and places to curl up with a book and watch the world go by if the weather is bad, Lots of students, has a young, vibrant feel.

More sun would be nice but that didn’t stop our explorations. Loved the architecture, bikes, canals, history. So old and still functioning. Transportation to airport and other cities so easy. So much to see and experience. Feels like living in a fairy tale. Debit and credit cards used throughout so no money to exchange English spoken everywhere. Quaint restaurants and pop ups for delicious Dutch food.

Utrecht has lots to offer for a few days.

Utrecht has lots to offer for a few days. Overall it is very clean, very friendly, safe (we walked around at night with young children) and it's a great start to exploring the Netherlands without negotiating a huge city like Amsterdam. It's fabulously well connected to most cities, the airport and Hook of Holland for travel. Tip: Take Eurostar to Rotterdam and change to get to Utrecht in the same time as Amsterdam from UK. Top things to do/see: Climb the Dom tower, visit the Speelklok museum of mechanical instruments, take a canal cruise, marvel at the churches and historic buildings, spend some time relaxing in the quiet gardens around the Dom or explore the many pedestrian streets of shops and cellars or the huge shopping centre. There are quite a few attractions we did not get to and it would be easy to fill four days for a family. Watch out for bikes which come from every angle and at speed. Use the designated crossings, especially with children. There are lots of restaurants with an impressive number of vegetarian options. We enjoyed pancakes at Anni's Pancakes and Muntkelder.

Utrechts has grown to a typical tourist town, which was not yet the case at the time of my first visit in 2013. Though it is a charming place, with a pleasant net of canals and a series of outstanding museums. Moreover the Dutch are extremely friendly and helpful. A robust umbrella can help!

It was a wonderful self catering apartment with a great balcony overlooking the Maliesingel. Perfect. The kitchen was adequate, a liitle light on with pots and pans. No lid for frying pans etc, Great coffee machine, close to AH and other supermarkets, wonderful walking areas perfect location to the centre and train , bus station. A Fabulous Utrecht Experience. Bed super comfy!!!!!!
