FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of kilometres from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular, are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

It was not our first visit to Oslo, this time we went there to visit the new Munch Museum, the new National Museum and the new Deichman Library, really great places for art and architecture fans. Moving around is easy with the public transport (Ruter app on iPhone). We had an excellent dinner at Lofoten fiskerestaurant

Oslo is a very nice and interesting place to visit with plenty of outdoor space and activities to take part in for free, it is however costly to eat and drink out all the time so with a family it could be expensive unless self catering or all inclusive. We particularly enjoyed the botanical gardens, the park with art sculptures, the harbour pool, walking on the roof of the opera house and the floating sauna's

There are many museums to visit, and the historical ones were truly excellent. As it is in a fjord with islands and waterways there are lots of boat trips on offer. A travel pass is good value as it covers the metro (from anywhere) busses, the ferry trips and admission to most museums. Food at the harbourside is prolific and a salmon - seafood specialist restaurant is very good. Everything is top price but to be expected across Norway.

Oslo is full of friendly and helpful people, beautiful parks, and great museums. The Oslo Pass saved us money on transportation and the museums. Food halls throughout the city offer a variety of cuisines. It is easy to get around Oslo or go by train to other parts of Norway. We would have appreciated more vegan and vegetarian food although we found enough to get by. Prices are generally high for restaurants and other food items but not outrageous.

We were only in Oslo for 1 1/2 days. Walked all around. Took about 1/2 a day to become adjusted to cities layout. Saw historic places of interest, museum, shops, parks, so much. Our goal was to be in Bergen by a certain date to catch a cruise. Wish we had allotted 1 or 2 more days to explore Oslo.

The hotel is reasonably priced for Oslo, and you get what you pay for - a relatively basic room. However, the room was clean, the staff at reception friendly. I'd recommend asking for a room facing the outer park, as the view was really nice. Breakfast was solid - a lot of options, including some for vegans. The location is good as well - about 12 minutes on foot from the main train station, about 15-20 min on foot to the Opera house or to the Karl Johans gate (main street in city center). There is also a tram station right outside.

Room was ready on arrival several hours before the advertised check in time which was massively convenient. Very comfortable, spacious room that I slept well in every night I was there. Strong WiFi throughout the entire hotel. Very kind and attentive staff. Location is unmatched with its proximity to the train station (which has great airport links) and the city centre and also quiet considering its proximity to both. Overall I would be more than happy to stay here again should I return to Oslo.

This hotel was one of our absolute highlights during our Norway trip! We were greeted with heartiness and instantly felt super comfy. The pool was huge, sauna was nice too. Rooms were spacious and super tidy, and, in general, this more than 100 years old hotel showed the class of a Grand Hotel! On top, breakfast was outstanding. Really, we have travelled a lot but this experience was one of a kind! We definitely will return!
