FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

I would highly recommend a Fjord tour, this was the highlight of the trip to Oslo. I would recommend booking a silent boat sightseeing tour, that is guided. The city is very walkable and there are lots of cafe's and bars to go in for a quick drink, especially on a warm spring day like when we visited. I would also recommend a walking tour to see some of the city highlights you are not able to see when on the water doing the boat tour. The folk and culture museum is worth a visit as well, very interesting.

A city that’s made better by the friendliness of the locals.

A city that’s made better by the friendliness of the locals. Quite a bit of history, though it’s a modern city with lots of new buildings. A weekend is enough to see the ‘must-sees’. I walked everywhere, but buses, trams and taxis are very easy to access. Can feel overpriced for non-Norwegians who are used to the high prices, but be prepared for expensive drinks of all kinds, meals out can hit the wallet too. I was there when the weather was perfect, which always helps. I recommend the castle/citadel and a walk ground the opera house. The main wharf is nice also. The Royal Palace park also well worth a visit for a nice quiet walk even though it’s only just out of the centre.

I really liked people, libraries, galleries, public sauna, monuments, parcs and architecture. We tried to safe some money and made brunches. We stayed close to everything and tried to use bicycle instead of public transport. It was super easy to find what we needed and to move in the city center.

From museums and art galleries to quayside eateries and bars...

From museums and art galleries to quayside eateries and bars, Oslo has everything. It is beautiful, clean, populated with friendly, helpful people and has loads to do - even for athletic people. You can rent out kayaks, bicycles, motorised scooters or go swimming at the beachside fjord pool. You can even book a quayside sauna and cool down by going swimming in the fjord. The choice of food for every budget and taste is incredible - especially the seafood restaurants. We tried 3 of the top- rated fish restaurants and, by far, the best one was Fish Me. It was so well cooked and with such a choice of fish, we went there twice.

Lovely city, if you like cycling, we recommend the 'Alternative Oslo' and city cycle tour to really appreciate it. Also wander along the waterfront, visit the Museums area and enjoy a boat trip to get there. The Opera House is wonderful with great views from the roof. You can also get ferries out to the other Islands in the vicinity.

Tram and Bus system is terrific (I am in a wheelchair) Getting around easy with map from Tourist center in central station. Get your lunch from a little bakery. Sidewalks treacherous for mobility. Changing of the guard at the palace is at 1.30 daily. Take raingear and umbrellas. Ferries good for getting around small Islands and museums. Viking museum closed temporararily but Maritime museum great. Vigeland sculpture park is a must.

Everything was fantastic. Firstly, the staff, so nice and helpful. The location is fantastic, close to the city centre, quiet and peaceful. We're avid walkers so it was nice walk for us to get to the city center, if you prefer to get there on the public transport, you've got multiple options nearby. The hotel is clean, the beds are comfy, there's a lot of kitchen equipment. There's a supermarket downstairs that is open 7:00-22:00 so you can do the groceries whenever you want.

A lovely hotel right in the city centre, convenient for the harbour, castle, town hall and main museums. Spotlessly clean and comfortable, with an incredible breakfast selection. The reception staff were really helpful when I had a problem and needed to print out my train tickets. The history of the hotel and the Kaffestova cafe are really interesting too. I'd definitely stay here again if I come back to Oslo.

Second time staying at the hotel. Great location, not too far from the city center. The room was clean and had a very spacious bathroom. Very comfortable to use. The beds were also great like in all Scandic hotels. Good food choice for breakfast. Just wish I was assigned a room on a higher floor like I requested but guess it was not possible since the hotel was sold out.
