FAQs about hotels in Oslo

Into the Wild in Oslo

Spreading for hundreds of miles from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.

For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.

From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.

Typically clean, modern Nordic city with excellent public transport. Some good museums and parks. Very walkable, Ake Brugge area nice. Quite expensive to eat out. Main areas felt safe. English spoken everywhere. We used a 24hr Ruter zone 1 one day to explore by tram, and a 24hr Oslo pass on another day to see Fram, Kon-tiki and Maritime museum with Bygdoe boat transfer over. Went to Norsk Folkemuseum while there as no 30 return bus passed right by. Visited Munch (free Weds after 6) and National museum both mainly to see 'The Scream' also. Liked Vigeland sculpture park (no 12/15 tram)

I loved Oslo and its people, helpful, friendly and good looking. I ate mostly at the hotel where people were very nice. The Polish waiter even lend me a bow tie for my smoking. I loved the Munch Museum and the opera house where I saw Don Carlos. It was very easy to get around Oslo

It is a beautiful city.

It is a beautiful city. We took a lovely tour on a catamaran thru Viator. Highly recommend. Also, we did a tour with great info and food that we would not have tried. There were several park options for our grandson. The nightlife is a little intimidating and very loud. Plan for this as a more expensive country than Denmark and Sweden.

Oslo is architecturally a wonderful city.

Oslo is architecturally a wonderful city. The people are nice, and the transport is so frequent and easy to use which makes for a stress free tourist visit! I recommend using the Oslopass which automatically covers your transport (inc train from airport - though look at the exceptions). This pass also covers entry to many attractions - The Nobel Peace Centre, Edvard Munch Gallery, the ferry to one of the islands across from the marina which has museums on it. However I am still trying to get my head around the cost of food/drinks. Average of €85 for 2 main courses, one glass of wine, and one soft drink - not in the tourist traps either. 2 sandwiches and 2 soft drinks €40-45.

Nice city, quite pricey but many things to see.

Nice city, quite pricey but many things to see. There are lot of museums, art, history, and about everything. Fjord cruise is recommended, and the Viking Planet Experience is really worth the money if you are interested. Lot of information and very modern, the entrance also include a VR movie. Very good. The other thing which is MUST TRY, is the shared sauna. I went to KOK, it was fantastic. Easy booking online. You can jump in a fjord from the sauna roof!! Also bakeries are a completely other worldly… absolutely 5 star! My stay was almost everyday rainy, but didn’t stop me to explore. Could have stayed a few more days.

Actually it’s an ordinary hotel with cons snd pros, but sometimes the most important thing is how you feel while you stay at a hotel. We felt very happy during our stay in Thon Hotel. Very cute lobby, amazing staff and special mention to breakfast. You expect this quality only in 5 star hotels maybe. A very charming breakfast room and amazing food with a wide variety

Excellent location near central station, less than 5 minute walk. Easy check in and check out process and we could check in early. Despite multiple tram passing right next to the room the noise was very low. What we asked in the reservation was met by the hotel. A bit pricy for what you get but it is well described when you book.
