FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.

We visited Gdańsk during the Ultrace event, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. From our experience, Gdańsk is an exceptionally well-organized and functional city. We felt safe throughout our stay, and the road infrastructure is excellent, even though the city doesn't have a metro system. The Old Town is absolutely stunning, with beautiful historic buildings and architectural details, some of them truly unique. The restaurants serve incredibly delicious food, and the portions are absolutely gigantic! What impressed us the most, however, were the local people. They are clearly proud of their traditions and cultural heritage while remaining warm, welcoming, and friendly towards visitors. As for Ultrace—everything was simply outstanding! The event featured unique cars, many of them true works of art, and the organization was flawless despite the scorching 38°C (100°F) heat. It attracted participants from all over the world, with vehicles brought from the USA, New Zealand, Japan, and many other countries. If you're passionate about beautifully built cars, the smell of burning rubber, and the sound of combustion engines, Ultrace is an event you simply cannot miss. Finesse at its finest!

Amazing city with beautiful architecture, Polish and Germanic culture. There is a cafe you must visit if you are interested in world war 2 history and more. Machandel Cafe!!! The food, drinks, and aesthetic are top notch! Ask for Lukasz and you wont be disappointed with the free history lessons and beautiful artifacts he himself have dug up with his bare hands for us all to admire. https://share.google/1XN1kNoGb3Nph0tNP

A very beautiful old town, a marina, restaurants, and delicious food. There are many places to visit. Stogi Beach. There’s nowhere to wash up at the beach; the only restroom is far away and requires a fee—which is inconvenient.

If you enjoy history and culture, Gdansk is the most amazing city. So many museums to visit - WW2 museum, Solidarity museum, amber museum, town hall museum, crane museum, Artus Court, also the emigration museum in Gdynia. So many churches to visit - St Mary's Basilica, St Nicolas church, St Bridget's church (with the incredible amber museum. Not forgetting a cruise down the river on the Black Pearl galleon to spend time at Westerplatte (where WW2 started) Great restaurants, but you simply must try the Milk Bars - so much good food at a realistic price. And if you have time, visit Stutthof concentration camp - a very sobering visit. Take the number 870 bus there, and enjoy the scenery outside the city of Gdansk.

It was a beautiful walkable city with lots to see, many bars and restaurants to visit and it felt safe. We also went to Hel on a boat trip which was good. There was also the possibility of visiting the seaside town of Sopot and Malbork Castle but we ran out of time. We loved Gdansk.

Another stay, albeit a short stay with family. Booked 2 rooms and although, not as large as the room on our first visit in 2024, it was still spacious and very comfortable. Very close to old town attractions and restaurants and bars. Once again the staff are very friendly and helpful of which makes this hotel a hit. Great to be back and will be back again.
