Food, Fado and Fun in Lisbon

Built on seven hills facing the Tagus River, charming Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in the world. It showcases unique tram rides, intimate Fado performances, great dining venues and much more.

The city is famous for its districts: Belem's famous monuments; Alfama's labyrinth of streets, bars and small shops; and trendy Alcantara's docks. Lisbon’s most popular nightlife and shopping venues are in Bairro Alto, while the traditional heart of the city beats rhythmically in Baixa.

Enjoy a walk through Jardim Botanico, admire the architecture of the Jeronimos Monastery or explore the Feira da Ladra flea market. The Chiado area serves the city's best traditional Portuguese cuisine. No meal is complete without the famous pasteis de nata!

Getting to the city center is only a metro or bus ride from Lisbon Portela Airport. Whether you want a luxury hotel, a friendly guesthouse or a cozy apartment, Booking.com has plenty of accommodations for your vacation in Lisbon.

Vale a pena visitar pelo menos uma vez na vida.

Vale a pena visitar pelo menos uma vez na vida. Mas não moraria lá: tem muitas ladeiras, várias ruas sujas e alguns bairros não são muito seguros. - definitely worth visiting at least once in your life. But I wouldn’t live there: there are many hills, quite a few dirty streets, and some neighborhoods aren’t very safe.

A great city with a lot of history and sights to look at. You will need a week if you want to see all the main sights properly. Easy to get around with public transportation, metro, bus, and taxis are fairly cheap aswell. Make sure you have comfortable shoes, you will end up walking alot here. Friendly people. A lot of local restaurants and small cafes to choose from.

The favourite area in Lisbon was above Bairro Alto.

The favourite area in Lisbon was above Bairro Alto. A small square with narrow streets coming off at it. It was a relaxed area and we found nice restaurants for a wine or coffee. We stayed in Belem, quieter suburb of Lisbon, easy to get to on the Tram 15E. Lots of tourists in the centre as there is the Monastery and oldest custard tart shop. (we didn't visit either as too busy even in February). We ate at the Time out market place, a good Indian meal. Also a pasta/pizza place Sophia near the Time out market. Okay but not exceptional. Its easy to get around Lisbon, buy a Navagate card from the Metro and fill up at tabacs and tap on trams and buses. I would avoid the busiest shopping part - too many tuk tuks and people trying to sell you things.

The city is beautiful and has a unique flair of a continental and coastal metropolis. It is full of interesting landmarks, World Heritage sites, which show a lot about the rich history of the Portuguese people. I liked the hilly and sloping parts of the city while taking rides, with the upcoming viaducts and bridges. In my experience, the locals are easy-going and helpful, although a bit of Portuguese will come in handy as a lot of people just speak their native tongue. There is a busy life in Lisbon, where I stayed, with lots of eataries, cafés and the like. Do not miss the local pastry that Lisboans are very proud of. I think Belem with the Jeronimos Monastery and the Tower are unmissable, but you can take boat rides and day trips outside of Lisbon as well. The only thing that was a bit of a distraction is the constant noise of low-flying aircraft. In all, Lisbon is a great place, it is highly recommended for solo travellers as well as for family trips with children.

Watch out in the city center, I got robbed in a restaurant in the city center while seated and having dinner. The restaurant had also security, but still happened and did not receive any real help. No one would call the police, and from the restaurant, they informed me that they made the footage available for the police if i wanted to make a report, two days after! When I had already returned.

My trip to Lisbon was an unforgettable blend of history, culture, and coastal charm. The city’s colorful neighborhoods like Alfama, scenic viewpoints (miradouros), and iconic yellow trams create a postcard-perfect atmosphere. Walking through historic areas near Belém Tower and tasting pastéis de nata made the experience even more authentic. Lisbon feels vibrant yet relaxed, with friendly locals and stunning views over the Tagus River. A day trip to Sintra was truly magical. The fairytale-like Pena Palace, with its bright colors and hilltop views, was the highlight. Exploring the mystical gardens and hidden tunnels of Quinta da Regaleira felt like stepping into another world. Sintra’s lush landscapes and romantic architecture make it a must-visit destination when in Portugal.

Good location exceptionally helpful kind staff. Breakfast generous hotel good value for money. Rooms soundproof and shower powerful unlike many hotels. Best value for money I've stayed in with the best service. Getting to the airport transfer service cheaper than alternatives and more reliable than alternative taxi options, within 5 mjns the taxi came. Rooms very comfortable. I'd definitely recommend.
