Other people might prefer Funchal but for our group Machico was perfect. Right by the sea, lots of walkable options to eat, and no hills. (Don't miss the chicken dumplings at the Korean food truck on the beach).

There's a very nice fancy restaurant (O Pescador) at the beach. Little bit expensive, but well worth it. Parking is difficult to find, though. The 45 min drive to Pico do Arieiro is a must early morning to see the sunrise.

Machico is a perfectly sized small town.
Machico is a perfectly sized small town. Everything is close by, it’s relatively clean, and there are several interesting restaurants. The airport is nearby, and many places can be explored on foot. It’s a great starting point for exploring that part of the island.

A nice town that combines mountains and beaches. It is really close to the airport, which is a plus. The downside is the weather. Out of an 8-day stay, it rained 4 or 5 days, while in other parts of the island, the weather was much better. My advice for people staying in Machico is not to judge the weather based on what it is in Machico.

Very beautiful city.
Very beautiful city. It is small, has all the amenities close together. It has a beautiful sand beach, which is not that common. Machico is also a great starting point for various trails, which are not that crowded and offer amazing views. It is also very close to the airport, which is really practical.

Machico is a small town with not much to see.
Machico is a small town with not much to see. The airport is 5 minutes away by car, while Funchal 20-30 minutes. Few hours or half a day is more than enough to explorer this tiny town and it's small beach, unless your accomodation in this town.

Perfect location for exploring Madeira, the small town of Machico is within walking distance where you will find a selection of cafes and restaurants to enjoy. We hired a car whilst in Madeira and there is parking nearby which is free.
The owner was very welcoming and even greeted us with a bowl of fruit, some Madeira wine and jam and crackers. Lovely touch. The house has everything you could possibly need for a weeks stay. We cooked a few nights and used the washing machine.
Really comfy bed.

Really lovely accomodation. Spacious, comfortable, clean, fully equipped kitchen. We only stayed for one night but will happily stay here again for longer next time we are in Madeira. The little touches like coffee pod machine, water and traditional cake provided, computer and TVs etc go a long way to making a great stay. Parking off road right in front of the property very handy. Highly recommend!

everything, everything was perfect and exactly as described. all kinds of services, tools, facilities, goods! the structure is amazing, comfortable, clean, modern and new, and quiet.
the location was fine, supermarket 5 mins walk away, next to the airport, silent street, and easy to reach by walk or car.
easily the best house I’ve been during my permanence in Madeira!! absolutely recommended ;)

Very nice and comfortable apartment! Ideal location with a wonderful view of Machico! The accommodation has a beautiful terrace with seating and sea view. Complete privacy and silence. Plenty of parking space. Ideal base for exploring the beauty of Madeira by car. Has everything you need for a great self catering holiday.
