Whether it’s wandering down a cute alleyway, past an impressive church or through the predominantly granite Avenida dos Aliados downtown, the hilly cityscape of Porto is impressively diverse. Overlooking the Douro River estuary, this merchant city features colourful homes; industrial bridges and the affluent river bank of Foz do Douro.

We loved our visit to Porto. If you're only doing Porto - 3-4 days is plenty. We went for a week, and also visited Aveiro and took the 500 bus to the seaside, 20 minutes from Porto. We're a retired couple, and enjoyed visiting Palacio da Bolsa, Porto cathedral, Clerigos Spiritus light show (brilliant), and the tower beside it, and of course a 6 bridge river cruise. We found it more relaxing across the river in the evening, with great views of Porto there. Be careful with the pavements. There's a lot of loose and uneven pavers in the pavements and cobble stones sitting up creating a tripping hazard. I nearly fell, and we witnessed a bad fall where the lady could not get up and needed help. The entertainment down by the river is excellent. There's a very vibrant, happy party atmosphere in the town.

Porto is absolutely amazing.
Porto is absolutely amazing. First the City is absolutely stunning with beautiful buildings! Next, it is completely walkable which is what I like. The City always had people walking about or enjoying an outdoor cafe at all hours so I felt safe walking around. On a personal preference I do not understand the graffiti on all the stunning buildings but it did not take away from my experience and I want to go back to Porto!

Beautiful city!
Beautiful city! Make sure to check out all the beautiful churches.
Highlights of my trip were Porto cathedral, the riberia district, Igreja de São Francisco and the clerigos tower.
Best viewpoints include Igreja de São Lourenço, mosteiro da serra do pilar and jardim de morro.
Explore some of the markets - my favourite was mercada da bolhao but there’s lots of good ones.
Make sure to put on your walking shoes on, it’s very hilly!

We took the hop on / hop off bus around the city for two days. Got a great idea of the various neighborhoods. We stopped at the beaches, and walked along the boardwalk.
We also took a 6 Bridges Cruise along the Douro River. That is a must do. The port tasting at Porto Cruz on the Vilanova Gila side of the river was great.
Spent a few hours in the Crystal Palace Gardens. Peacocks roaming around everywhere! Great for kids.

Central Porto is pretty compact and easily walkable.
Central Porto is pretty compact and easily walkable. Lots of interesting things to see and generally good value. Lots of nice restaurants although traditional Portuguese ones are a no-go area for vegetarians. Good cheap public transport by bus and metro. You can buy bus tickets onboard (easy) but the metro requires use of ticket machines which are a real pain - there are no manned ticket offices.

Amazing breakfast (traditional Portugal food, you won´t be able to finish all this food), lovely stuff and really beautiful house,. You can see that the owner do everything for comfort of his customers. It looks like the owner doesn´t care for money just dreamed to have a lovely hotel that will exceed your expaxtations and his dream came true. Honestly really cute.
The breakfast was quite good but not exeptional. Almost no hotel in Portugal offers natural orange juice although oranges grow everywhere. Hotel Vila Galé is no exception...The beds were very comfortable and the room clean. The Spa area was well maintained and offers a fantastic view from the top of the 19 stories building.
Best location, nice staffs, neat room condition, good breakfast
Everything was satisfying 😊 we came to portugal for our honeymoon, and porto was the first city we met in Portugal.
Its such a lovely city and thw teatro hotel was super good. If someone I know has plan to travel Porto, I will definetly recommend here
The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they helped us store our bikes and kept our luggage for us while we went off to do the Camino. The breakfast was the best one we had during our stay in Portugal. The check out time of 12 was also great.
