If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there...

If Viseu was near the ocean I would've moved there inmediately. Lovely streets to wander around, parks and local shops and restaurants. Lovely architecture to admire and just love the ambience. The N2 national road passes through here and it's close to a great metal festival.

Viseu is a gorgeous little city with rich historical tales, medieval buildings, cute cafes, and lush gardens. I really loved this city and became impressed with how clean and safe it felt, as a young woman. I really want to visit this city again. Can’t say that for most of the cities in Portugal but Viseu was just so charming.

The city is so clean, the amenities are fantastic, the people are very friendly and relaxed. Everything you need is there and it has great history and wonderful parks and gardens. A gem of a city. The location is perfect for trips to places like Douro Valley and Serra de Estrela. Also a good location for cyclists who can access purpose built cycle routes on old the old railway line. Eating out is very affordable. Pay the two euro fee to go up to the museum above the cathedral it is probably the best attraction for two euros we have ever visited and the views down onto the square are lovely. Look out for wildlife along the river and around the fortifications. We saw otter, kingfisher and Salamanda.

Given that the weather was very good, and we didn't have a lot of time, we managed a good wander around the city and particularly enjoyed wandering around the park at Mata do Fontelo. We also enjoyed wandering around the old town.

Viseu is a very nice town, not too big so easy access to monuments etc. Heavy rain forced my wife & I to seek temporary shelter in a small cafe. The wine was 1 Euro for a “Kimi” pour (quite a large portion). We stayed until well after the rain stopped!

Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance...

Viseu is a charming, walkable, old city with a good balance of old charm and modern amenities. The cathedral area, for example, is within walking distance of a shopping mall, which is near the bus station. It seemed like there was a good cultural buzz as well, with several musical and film events taking place in the park and around town, indoors and out. The Casa Conselheiro Alfonso de Melo museum, right in city center, showcases---for free entry-- the writer's good-sized personal collection of Portuguese Post-Impressionist paintings, furniture, ceramic dish sets, and various other home objects d'arte. From there, a 15-minute walk through the narrow, cobbled streets of Old Town brings you to the cathedral and Nacional Museum Grāo Vasco, the gift shop of which offers a huge book selection, some in English and other languages. There are manors and gardens worth visiting outside the city as well, I understand, but they require some private transport.

I live in Portugal this is my second stay in 9 weeks lovely place,clean not noisy and in a great location. The beds in the 4 bed room are comfortable and extra long also the bedding is clean with thick pillows and quilts,each bed has individual lights and sockets with a curtain for privacy. Recommended i will be staying again, I have peeked in other rooms as passing they also are of the same standard ......a must stay if you are passing through.😊😊

This was my second stay at this hotel. Each time (once with a pet, once without), I was very pleased with the accommodations, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, and the very generous breakfast buffet that was included. Viseu is a great place to stop on longer road trips in Portugal, and I expect that I will be staying here again.

This Pousada is in a converted hospital. It is quite a fantastic building and is huge in size and most impressive both inside and out. The bedroom was large and very comfortable. The restaurant was again most impressive and the staff were most attentive and the menu excellent. Breakfast too was extremely good.
