The Capital of Old and New
The Saudi Arabian capital, sprawling Riyadh is a mix of historic monuments and ultra-modern skyscrapers. On a plateau surrounded by desert, it is one of the Middle East’s richest cities, so there are several 5-star hotels in Riyadh.
This wealth is also evident in modern architecture, particularly the Kingdom Centre, a perfectly sculpted building looking strangely like a bottle opener. Lit at night, it has an observation deck offering fantastic city views.
On its bottom floor is a shopping mall, and there is another within Al Faisaliyah, the country’s 1st skyscraper. Riyadh is a shopping paradise and yet more malls are on wide, palm-lined King Fahd Road. This king also gave his name to King Fahd Stadium, home of the Saudi football team.
Unusually for a capital, King Khalid International Airport is right in the city centre and there are lots of Riyadh hotels near the airport on Booking.com. South, in Al Murabba, is the King Abdulaziz Historical Centre, site of the Saudi Arabia National Museum. Further south in Dirah is 19th-century Al-Masmak fort with souks and mosques nearby.
Wherever you stay, remember that Saudi Arabia is a deeply Islamic country and that local customs should be respected. Men and women may not be able to access attractions at the same time.

Spent 4 days in Riyadh, nice place, easy to get around with good metro and busses. Edge of the world tour with camel ride is great, only thing that lets it down is the meeting place. Ryadh is an amazing city. Good food and good places to go. One problem is for non-muslim people who want to have fun at night. There is no bars and alcoholic drinks, and the parties are very limited. But for business it is incredible. Loud construction noise from 7am to 8pm Moved in to a substandard room due to noise No milk available, either fresh or powdered meaning expensive room service orders when wanting coffee on a morning. Never known a hotel not offer free powder or fresh milk Idea for my needs location wise but will look for alternate in future. Expensive for how i have been treated. Transportation is very easy in Riyadh via the train; however, vehicle transportation is very busy and crowded. The city generally is good and clean. There are a lot of shopping malls and hotels. But the traffic system is exhausted. Even to cross the road you need to take a taxi.
