FAQs about hotels in Stockholm

A Natural Beauty

Modern Stockholm is uniquely made up of 30% waterways and another 30% of parks and green spaces. It’s spread across 14 islands and is both one of the world’s cleanest and most charming capitals.

Stockholm’s famously huge number of museums includes the Naturhistoriska riksmuseet, the Moderna Museet and the Spritmuseum. City Hall hosts the famous Nobel Prize banquet and the Vasamuseet hosts the 300 year old Vasa warship.

The city’s past can be felt in Gamla Stan – Stockholm’s stunning Old Town with medieval layout, cobblestone streets and the Baroque-style Royal Palace. Designer Swedish clothes and interior decorations abound in the many unique stores throughout the city.

For a day away, ferries reveal the stunning Stockholm archipelago, a group of thousands of islands and rocks where you can enjoy hiking, outdoor swimming and fishing.

Whether you fly to Arlanda, Bromma, Skavsta or Västerås Airports, the city centre can be reached by either train or airport coach. Booking.com offers a wide choice of accommodations for your Stockholm holiday, from modern hotels, to unique botels and affordable hostels.

For those who prefer walking to public transportation or taxis, I suggest going in late spring or early autumn, since temperatures peak at 28-30°C in the summer. There are many places with good food and coffee, including filter coffee, but most of the places in the Old Town and the surrounding area probably lack air conditioning. Go City might help you save money on sightseeing activities, such as museums and art galleries. We bought the two-day pass and never regretted it.

Stockholm has amazing culture and history. It is a fascinating city. I loved that my hotel was a short ferry ride from the city center. This made exploring the museums and other attractions easy, but allowed me to escape the center of the city for the hotel stay.

We only had a short time in the city, but we took a boat ride to see some of the city from the water and hear some history from the guide on the boat. We also took a short ferry ride to Skansen, the world's oldest open air museum. Skansen is on Djurgården, an island in central Stockholm with several great museums and an amusement park. It would be very easy to spend days at these museums.

I really like being in Stockholm, especially in the summer. It's a very walkable city, with lots to see and do, and if being in the city gets too much, you can always catch one of the island-hopping ferries out into the archipelago. The public transport is clean, safe and frequent, and some of the underground stations are worth a visit just to see how they have decorated the living rock they were carved out of.

I was one of six on a lads and dads getaway for football but was blown away by the city itself. All six of us are already looking for flights for next year to return with our partners. The city centre has so much to offer with it's many bars and restaurants. The shopping was also a great experience from designer shops to independent shops. It helped that we had two glorious days of sunshine. Had a trip to see the boat at the Vasa Museum. It reminded me of the boat Jack Sparrow sailed in. Lots of history, fantastic buildings. Missed out on one of the many boat trips. Can't wait to go back. Was in Krakow this year but this is a lot bigger and better. Weather did help.

    A beautiful clean city.

A beautiful clean city. Glama Stan (The Old City) is the area to stay in with its lovey old architecture and small winding streets, however the downside is you are surround by "Lots of tourist" and also rather expensive cafes and restaurant's. Look to the surroundings areas, walk around and experience life with the locals that don't leave Stockholm for summer. Search for restaurants in different areas surrounding Stockholm. Negotiating public transport is often a great source of stress for us when travelling. I found Stockholm to be relatively easy. Buy a 7 day pass - SJ pass even if you don't stay for 7 days. It will save you, and also give you the freedom to explore without spending money buying 90 min tickets. Some ferry's are included. Of course if you are ABBA fan like us, don't forget the ABBA museum. Its a short ferry ride from Glama Stan as are many other museums near by. Consider A/C in the summers months, Sweden is warmer than ever now. There is a laid back sophistication and style to this city which we enjoyed.
