It was bigger than I thought it was. Many temples further up in the mountains were definitely places to add to your list.
I loved the views from the Mekong across to Laos, the markets in the town by the river, the night market by the station and of course all the temples were great to visit.
I stayed at the Park and Pool resort which had great service, rooms and a nice pool.

My husband and I stayed the night in Nong Khai on the way from Bangkok to Vientiane and we're glad we did. We took the day train because we wanted to see some of the countryside. We didn't have a plan for crossing the border and getting to Vientiane so we chose to stay over night in Nong Khai - just enough time before noon checkout the next day to have a leisurely dinner, walk along the river, and consult our hosts on the easiest way to get to Vientiane. That turned out to be a taxi to the bridge, a bus across the bridge and a taxi to our hotel in Vientiane. Couldn't have been easier.

Relaxed vibes.
Relaxed vibes. Several places serving great food and fun, busy energy on Walking Street when the market was on (with delicious food). Ease of access to Vientiane/Laos is great but it's worth staying in Nong Khai for a few days. It's also worth travelling a little further west along the Mekong for a very real experience of Mekong river life and villages.

Perfect tourist place with lots of interesting things to do.
Perfect tourist place with lots of interesting things to do. Quaint markets and river walks are highlights of our stay. We hired a car at Udon Thani airport and that was our big plus to explore things around Nongkhai. Some of the places are 30-50 km away so having your car is necessary.
English speaking manager, very helpful.
Name of hotel in English and Thai easier to spot for foreigner.
Clean room, nice location near Nong khai but need a car. Nice cafe in hotel with pleasant view and chilling area.
Nice walk along the lakeside. Swimming pool was small and cold but that's the way I like it also no taste of chlorine.
The television was huge and really good reception.
Was upgraded to a ground floor room with no extra charge as description on booking not correct.
Very helpful and I would definitely stay again.
Nicely located Apartment Hotel in the middle of Nong Khai close to the river and the main street. The hotel and room were a little worn, but this was definitely compensated by the helpfulness of the host couple Jeem and Don in every way.
Lovely large room (no. 17) with large toilet and shower cubicle, containing all the facilities we needed during our 16 day stay. The cleaning was impeccable.
We will definitely use Pikul Apartment Hotel again on future visits to Nong Khai. Highly recommended for both short and long-term stays.
It’s my first time travelling alone in Mueng Nong Khai, and I made a perfect choice staying at Mut Mee guesthouse. The location is superb, green and peaceful, right by the Mekong River. The neighbourhood is also lovely. Staffs are very helpful. I especially love the garden and open-air sala where I can spend hours working there. And the golden Dog! Definitely revisit soon.
The view of the Mekong from the terrace was amazing and the location on the waterfront gave access to all the riverside restaurants. The hotel was cozy and felt like it had a lot of personality compared to higher star hotels. It was a nice perk that you could step outside the room and end up on the riverside walkway or in the communal dining area.
Lovely clean spacious hotel room with great view over river at back. Ate at restaurant for evening meal which was good. Staff very attentive and helpful. We chose this hotel due to closeness to border into Laos.
Staff arranged their hotel minibus van to Thai border crossing but can do trips to Laos as well.
Quiet location which suited us.
A very nice clean Hotel in the middle of Nong Kai. Just blocks from walking street that is open on the week end. Great breakfast. Bed was comfortable and the shower was first rate. The staff attended to our every needs. Only down side is its a bit pricey for Thailand.
I liked the very courteous and helpful staff and if a member of staff was having difficulty understand you they find someone who could. Also, the rooms were spacious and bright in decor with good lighting, and not dark and dismal like some Thai hotels.
Nice area of town although far from the river which is the main attraction for Nong Khai. It is very close to the border checkpoint though so for weary travelers its a great place to overnight before heading into Laos.
A standard hotel with good buffet breakfast. It is in a good location for a group of us that travel by our own car, adequate parking space, not far from attractions, temples, river, cafe, restaurant.
The breakfast was good, the relaxed atmosphere and the nice and helpful staff.
A late check-in was possible. The hotel and also the room was very clean. Thank you very much for the very good stay.
Art filled hotel/hostel. Very homey. And cute. Probably the very best place to stay in Nong Khai. With airco and free coffee. Everything just lovely. Unique and excellent esthetics.
Very near to city and other attractions.
Staff is very friendly and bicycle rental is available.
Rooms are very clean and good condition.
They provide good room for my money.
Poor location, adequate rooms but the rudest and most unfriendly hotel I have known in Thailand. Normally hotels in Thailand are so friendly and acommodating but sadly not here.
