Love the location. The view was amazing. The only problem with our stay was the AC was not working properly in our condo. Maintenance quickly came in and checked it out. Will definitely visit again.

We realize that nothing can be done about it at this point, but the haphazard layout of the many vacation beach home properties makes the island look messy. Thankfully, the home construction ends at the west end public beach area and the natural beauty of the island begins.

We loved the overall laid back feeling of the Island.
We loved the overall laid back feeling of the Island. Not commercialized at all. And all of the beach houses - when we weren't on the beach or relaxing, we enjoyed driving around and looking.
Restaurants were good to very good and shopping was as expected (beachy).
Beach was clean and flags were appropriate. Appreciated that the beach was dog friendly.
Be sure to stop at grocery stores, or Walmart before getting to to the island because there are only a few convenience stores that charge convenience store prices. So, if you have to go back and shop because you couldn't stop, plan on about at least 3 hours to get your groceries and stuff and return.

Dauphin Island is that quiet little oasis to get away from everything when you just need some beach time. The beach is pristine, with gentle waves to keep it fun for the kids. There is some really good food to be had on DI as well. Do NOT miss the Lighthouse Bakery.
We didn't get to visit the Marine Lab because it was closed for renovations, but I'm sure it's a must do.
Would I visit DI again? Absolutely!

Dauphin Island was the perfect location for our family!
Dauphin Island was the perfect location for our family! The smaller, quaint town was exactly what we were looking for as for a vacation. My children love “crab hunting” and this is definitely the place to do it! The dolphins were very close, while swimming we seen several jump! We will definitely be back!

Loved the area, but there are only a handful of restaurants and most open late and close early. the 2 sit down places open after 7pm required reservations, which wasn't mentioned on their websites. We had to go across the bridge for dinner.
Also, the sealab was closed for renovations, this was the main thing my family wanted to see. I'm not sure why this can't be done in the off season!!

Dauphin Island is beautiful and quieter than most Gulf shore areas in Alabama. Getting around is easy. Restaurants are limited so being able to bring what you like is smart if you have a kitchen area where you stay.
