I took some time away from Chicago to visit California. Escondido or any other place in California is what a person makes of it. I keep my expectations realistic so I can actually enjoy myself visiting different scenic places.

It was a busy intersection with the I-5 freeway, and the hotel was on the slip road coming off the main road, which made it a little difficult to find the hotel.
We went to the Barnardo Winery, about a 6 minute drive away. It was an awesome place. There is a tasting room, and a large bar and a restaurant, all in a winery setting. Very romantic and beautiful

There were less homeless and sketchy looking people standing around this time. The city seems to be finding a place for people who need help instead of letting them pass out on the sidewalks like before. I still see encampments in the making or abandon camp debris, mattresses etc. next to highways and along roadways.

I would not recommend staying at this place. It has a very cheap, outdated, run down feel to it. Even the soap and shampoo are cheap. The bedding was inadequate as the blanket and comforter were so thin that I was cold all night and did not sleep well. My room had a peculiar smell to it and even though the facility is supposed to be non-smoking, people were apparently disregarding the rules because I could smell cigarette smoke everywhere and there were even cigarette butts on the upstairs walkway in front of one of the rooms. My room did not match the photos as it was dark and dingy and had no carpeting. This was a very disappointing experience and the price was way too high given the state of things so the value is not there. There was no mention of continental breakfast nor did I see where it could be so I'm not sure they offer it even though it is advertised.

find a way to keep the homeless from walking thru the parking lot in the middle of the night. they are roaming around checking for unlocked cars a unlocked room doors. who can rest after seeing that happening. Beds are hard..

Escondido has a vibrant downtown area with plenty of shopping and dining choices. One of my favorite places to dine is O'Sullivan's, an Irish pub-style restaurant with traditional Irish fare. Also plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy including hiking, tennis, pickleball, a once-a-week farmer's market, and an art gallery with many events throughout the year as well as monthly poetry readings and open mic. Public transportation is readily available, mostly buses. Also a large regional mall with numerous dining establishments on the property.

Apart from the large house with plenty of space, the view is the big selling point here. With lots of outdoor space (pool, lounge area), it's great to just be outside and look at the view across Escondido. Kids were mostly in the pool or tub and we enjoyed some time off around the fire table. Shops very close by (just down the road at the intersection) and ocean not too far either. Host super responsive to questions. Cooling throughout the house helped a lot with the very warm 4th of July weekend. Definitely recommended!

Comfortable room, bedding, and pillows. Nice and quiet made it easier to relax after a day of travel. Room was clean and in order. Staff checking in and out were great! Breakfast was good. An extra bonus is checkout is at Noon, if your travel schedule allows, you can take your time and don't have to feel rushed in the morning trying to vacate the room in time. We would definitely return and suggest this hotel to others.

What a beautiful place, clean air, and a view of the mountains, it's something special! We will definitely recommend this hotel to all our friends and acquaintances. Already recommend! Thank you very much, it was a wonderful stay! It is a pity that we came only for four days. We will definitely come next year!
