Given the fact we arrived mere days after the big storm of May 2024, I think the location (The Galleria) helped to avoid the electricity cuts. Also, the breakfast and facilities were fantastic, I did not expect such a nice and cheap hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while in Houston for a concert. We had a corner suite which was really comfortable. Great bed and pillows. Free water and snacks were a nice touch. Buffet breakfast was decent, and we treated ourselves to the restaurant a la carte option on the last morning, which was excellent. Very helpful and friendly staff.

FAQs about hotels in Houston

Space, Sports and Sheer Size

Ever since a problem was encountered on Apollo 13, Houston has been an international household name. The 4th largest US city, it is home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center where Mission Control is located. Of course, this is not its only claim to fame. This is Texas after all, where everything is big.

Houston’s Reliant Astrodome was the world’s first indoor sports stadium under a domed roof, and the Galleria is the largest mall in Texas. The city’s Livestock Show and Rodeo is the largest in the world, and the JP Morgan Chase Tower is the planet’s tallest 5-sided building. The list goes on.

Amid the skyscrapers of the thriving CBD is the Toyota Center, home of the city’s NBA and AHL teams. The theatre district is also in the downtown area, whereas the museum district is concentrated to the north-east of Hermann Park, home of a boating lake, nature reserve and miniature railway. Also here is Houston Zoo, and just west is Rice University, one of several in the city.

The bohemian Rice Village is popular with students, as are the city’s historic pubs and leafy parks. Houston also has no shortage of restaurants or accommodation options. Those on Booking.com include motels, apartments and hotels near George Bush Airport.

Do not stay at the Wyndham Hobby Hotel.

Do not stay at the Wyndham Hobby Hotel. Terrible industrial chemicals used for cleaning old carpet. I was allergic to the environment. They did not grant me any refund and were so mis-advertised and misleading to the property representation on line. Beware!

Downtown Houston was fantastic.

Downtown Houston was fantastic. Easy access to the train and bus, was an added value, especially if you want to explore and save cost on other modes of transportation. Walking around the different streets, led to various tall and structurally designed buildings that were a delight, especially at late evening into night time. A few were lit up and had the multi changing lights. I walked to District Theater which was a delight and to see the different Halls for various types of Entertainment. There was also the Aquarium close by, for the family or individual to just go in and have some fun. There was a grocery on a corner, just in case you want to get your favourite snack our other pleasurable snacks that the hotel did not offer. One thing I was grateful for, there was no need to worry about purchasing the bus ticket. There were multiple self service machines all around, which could have been purchased with credit card or cash. The bus rides starts at $1.25 to $4.50, depending on the number of stops the bus would make. For example, if you don't want to be on each stop that the bus may make, which can be from 32 stops, depending where you are going, you can choose the appropriate bus. Other than this, $1.25 takes you to where ever you want to go, if you are not in a hurry and the buses, arrive on time.

Houston is one of the true American cities - meaning it is encapsulating the American trademarks we all know and treasure from movies, series and commercials. It is pleasurable to the senses in all the unexpected ways. Its allure is everywhere - I forgot how captivating USA can be from my stay in Seattle 15 years ago... Houston has it all in a completely different way from Seattle or New York: First, the climate is humid and almost tropical. Second, the area of the city is humongous - they say in Houston you are always 30 minutes away from Houston :-). Third - it has, like, 4 separate downtowns (?!) and almost no apartment buildings - it is enchanting in its own way. Fourth - the traffic is extremely polite even when all highway lanes are full - you can always easily switch lanes and make the exit. I did not want to leave Houston, and I hope that next visit will be sooner than later. Highly recommend visiting the Houston Museum of Natural Science, NASA Space Center, baseball game in Daikin Park (go Astros!), to mention some Texas-size attractions (pun intended)!

Staff were very helpful when our two sons transiting through Houston to join us in Mexico had a problem with their debit card. The hotel staff sorted it out with minimal fuss - much appreciated. Also the free shuttle to the airport was great - easy and efficient. Staff were helpful in suggesting timeframes needed for the shuttle.
