Rapid City is a comfortable-sized city. Traffic was not bad.
Rapid City is a comfortable-sized city. Traffic was not bad. There are plenty of places to eat in town, and there are nice parks and attractions. Access to the Black Hills is very convenient, with Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, the Crazy Horse Memorial, the Badlands, and Devil's Tower, Wyoming, a relatively short drive away. The Presidential Walk is a nice feature in town, and the Depression-era Dinosaur Park affords great views of the city.

Nice city. Traffic was not horrible. Good Restaurants, Firehouse Brewery & Restaurant great pizza, Sickies Garage..gotta try their salted caramel cheese cake! Nice scenic drive to Mount Rushmore.

Every place we went to was wonderful and we could have spent...
Every place we went to was wonderful and we could have spent more time. There were many more attractions that we could get to in 4 days and so will most likely do the visit again in a few years. We loved the Mt. Rushmore Monument, the Crazy Horse Monument, the Needles Highway, Sturgis, Deadwood, and Keystone. We enjoyed the FireHouse Brewery and Pizzeria in Downton Rapid City. Everything was easy to visit with GPS. Local maps and descriptions of attractions were helpful.

So much to do, we took an all-day tour, "Bus Tour of Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills." Then revisited some sites for more time. My wife, a "Black Hills Gold" fan, had many stores carrying their products. Plenty of eateries, local and chains.

There is so much to see while in Rapid City....the downtown...
There is so much to see while in Rapid City....the downtown area with the bronze Presidents, the great food and wonderful people who are so friendly and accommodating. Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, Hill City and Keystone were such delights to see. We also enjoyed the Chuckwagon dinner/show as well as the Black Hills Theatre. We could have stayed 3 more days easily.

We just stopped in on our way to Mt. Rushmore area. This is a great jumping off spot and could serve as a base for Black Hills adventure if you don't mind a little drive back home every night. The location is excellent for Black Hills access as well as Rapid City activities, with Walmart just a little bit down the road for shopping and several restaurants within minutes. As a newer property, it stands out in an area with a lot of "tired" and overpriced tourist hotels.
