I was there to visit my son and his wife. Although we had lots of activities planned we were not able to do them all because the main point of the trip was to visit. We went to the Virginia Transportation Museum and it was better than I was expecting.

Salem is a small safe hometown.
Salem is a small safe hometown. Southern hospitality and beautiful mountains surrounding you. I grew up here and have wonderful memories of family and friends that are lasting a lifetime from Salem.
Several restaurants and places to eat. I Iove to grab some Sam’s hot dogs and sit at the duck pond with my family!
Several antique shops and quaint restaurants to choose from!
It is a quaint town with lots of Southern hospitality. Several convenient hotels are available.
The only downside is West Main Street is very congested at times.

Salem is a small relaxed town with very friendly folks.
Salem is a small relaxed town with very friendly folks. My dog and I were there staying at a nearby hotel overnight and were walking downtown, really nice town. Interesting, the downtown was on one stretch of the road with locally owned stores, at the other end of Main Street, a very long street, is more mainstream commercial. I found a really great restaurant downtown that served healthy foods named Elderberries. I would recommend the restaurant, as well as Salem, if you are looking for a small town to explore with really friendly folks, framed by really beautiful mountains.

The room was a perfect size for 2 people, however the loveseat and carpet was EXTREMELY dirty. Also we had to get our key cards recoded several times a day. Even then it would take us anywhere from 3-12 tries to get the door to unlock.

A great little city to spend a day or two, close to Roanoke with a few more attractions. Great downtown area that you can easily walk with antique stores, a brewery, and good restaurants. Roanoke College grounds are very nice. Anything else you may need is on the main road further down from the downtown area.

Salem is a great little town that’s very close to Roanoke and tons of hiking and biking trails. We especially enjoyed McAfee Knob, a local 8-mile hike. There’s a lot to do around the area, much of it free, and plenty of good restaurants, such as Table 50 and El Jefe. Blue Cow is a small batch ice cream establishment that I definitely recommend! Everyone was super friendly, and we would definitely visit again.

I like the fact that it was clean and the hotel is new. The location is great. They welcome you with fresh brewed coffee. Tea is always available. They have good quality yogurts for breakfast.
