A Location to Relish
Salt Lake City is the surprisingly green Utah capital between the mighty Wasatch Mountain Range and the Great Salt Lake. Aside from skyscrapers housing industrial banks, the skyline is dominated by monuments of the Church of the Latter-Day Saints which is headquartered here.
A church member, Brigham Young, founded the city in what is now This Is The Place Heritage Park. A tower sculpture commemorates the settlers’ trek across America by handcart, an example of which is in the Pioneer Memorial Museum. Walled Temple Square has the main Mormon sights: the Temple is only visitable by members, but anyone can listen to the famous Tabernacle choir.
The State Capitol sits majestically on top of a hill with views of peaks offering winter skiing and summer hiking. The city hosted the 2002 Winter Olympics and one venue was the Olympic Cauldron Park within the University of Utah, also home of the Fine Art Museum and Natural History Museum.
The Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a more unusual Salt Lake City attraction and down the road is the Trolley Square Mall. More branded stores are in the Gateway District, while Sugar House is more trendy and eclectic.

We were at the conference at Salt Palace which was beautiful and the temperature was good inside! Well done for thinking about Earth and not using AC too much. Surrounding cafes were good! City is beautiful with lots of trees and amazing mountain views. The traffic took a little getting used to and we preferred to avoid the highway. There are an amazing amount of different restaurants to choose from within a short drive. Jaw-dropping, breathtaking scenic views in the surrounding areas of the City. SLC has changed a lot (for the better) since I lived there between 1983-93. It’s a lot more cosmopolitan with great coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping. The demographic has changed markedly and it no longer feels as parochial as it did back then. The Wasatch Mountains are gorgeous and the people are friendly. Lots of street construction & street disturbance.
Lots of street construction & street disturbance. Too many homeless just hanging out all over. We drove to the City Center Mall which is beautiful at Christmas, used the underground parking & had lunch at Cheesecake Factory which is always full but always worth it. Went to listen to an organist at the ancient Tabernacle (finished in 1869). They have someone playing the organ everyday at noon. It is powerful, also took a 3 hr tour of the city & that was money well spent, lots to learn & lots of beautiful places like "This is the Place" Monument right across from the zooGuest review byAnonymous
