Hotel Solares is located in Santa Cruz, just 10 minutes' walk away from the Beach Boardwalk. An outdoor pool is located on-site along with rooms that provide free WiFi and cable TV.

There was no breakfast. Toilet didn't work. Arrived early in the morning only to find a stabbing in the parking lot. Waited 1.5 hours just to check in. My 11 yo daughter needed a bed to sleep in and had to wait until 3am just to get out of the car. Shady staff member accepted a tip to bring in my dogs only for me to have to pay full price to keep the animals during our stay. Toilet was never fixed during the three day stay. Try to change rooms only to be put in a lesser of the rooms . Horrible hotel experience.

Just 10 minutes’ walk from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, this eco-friendly hotel offers rooms with attached bathroom with flat-screen cable TVs and iPod docking stations.

No one was there to check you in after 4:30 pm on a Saturday so had to use a lockbox. No amenities at all, not even a luggage cart. Room was perfectly fine, comfortable bed, but the sink was dirty - I texted staff about it and never got a response. Definitely would not rate this hotel 3 stars. If it was half the price I would have been happier. Location was great and it was quiet.

FAQs about hotels in Santa Cruz

Surfin’ USA in Bohemian CA

Santa Cruz was surf central California long before the Beach Boys sang about it. The Surfing Museum in the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse tells stories of those who have braved some of the world’s best waves.

Overlooking the ocean rollers are the Coconut Grove Ballroom and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk - the oldest amusement park in the state of CA, and the last original one on the West Coast. Its historic carousel, rollercoasters and rides are a colourful backdrop to Cowell’s Beach, best viewed from the Sky Glider cable cars.

Jutting into Monterey Bay is the wharf where sea lions bask and pelicans decide on their next meal. Seafood restaurants are abundant here and the bars provide lively nightlife. Pacific Avenue is the main shopping area and one street away is the Museum of Art & History.

Unsurprisingly for a surfer hotspot, the city has a liberal outlook and is known for political activism - a far cry from the era when the Santa Cruz Mission was established. The mission is now a state park alongside Natural Bridges Beach and the Big Basin Redwoods in forested hills behind the city, home to the gravity-defying Mystery Spot.

Booking.com’s Santa Cruz accommodation includes pet-friendly motels, hotels with hot tubs and cheap inns near UCSC.

Location was very central to all the places we went.

Location was very central to all the places we went. The hotel and room was decorated very nicely and it was very clean. The breakfast had many options but I would have appreciated availabllity of non dairy milk. Staff was not welcoming and nor did they talk to us unless spoken to. The mirror in the bathroom stated the room would be cleaned every other day. ON the third day, I asked when our room would be cleaned, the desk person thought it might be cleaned the next day. On the fifth day of our stay, I had to request that the sheets be changed and the wastebaskets emptied.

I had amazing time at the city, so beautiful and chill.

I had amazing time at the city, so beautiful and chill. It feels like u enter anothe space in the world. The community so easy phase and welcoming. This is a must city to visit. My spot was the beach as i love to run and meditate over there, i also visit downtown and few places. Great experience with a kava bar which was my first time so if u dont want to consume alcohol this place is for you , get a natural buzz from the kava roots.

I grew up going to Santa Cruz with me family, its a nice area. Its a great place to walk around, there is more there than the boardwalk, the boardwalk is dun. But the harbor, there are great restaurants.

Santa Cruz is great any time of the year.

Santa Cruz is great any time of the year. The Christmas lighted train was a a big surprise and fun to watch each evening. A lovely walk above the ocean to watch the sun sets over the crashing waves near the Surfer Museum (formerly a light house. A wonderful Shakespeare theatre company (now doing A Christmas Carol i town) that does more than Shakespeare in the summer in a beautiful outdoor setting. Lots to do for families, couples, sports, just try it out!

Much easier to park downtown at this time of the year and no wait time for restaurants. It’s a short drive to Whaler City Bakery up the coast in Davenport for a hearty meal, lots of restaurants in town, and we enjoyed Pretty Good Advice for vegan options.

Perfect location for accessing all the fun activities in Santa Cruz! Jane is such a sweet lady! She is so friendly and takes the time to walk the property with you and explain what all is around to do. She truly cares about her guests stay and their comfort. The hotel is a cute little vintage motel stay, very clean rooms with a “comfort of home” feel. We will definitely be back!

We love hearing the waves all night and easy access to the beach. Also love that the pool and spa are basically on the beach. The location is great and the rooms are always clean and comfy. It's great being able to walk to the Boardwalk, the wharf and Westcliff Drive. Just a 2 mile drive to downtown. Parking is nice and easy too. Can't beat the views!!!

It can be seen that the interior of the building has been renovated. Although the room is not big, it is clean, fully furnished, the bed is very comfortable, and the price is moderate. Not far from the beach and restaurants. I will choose here again next time I come to Santa Cruz.
