FAQs about hotels in Perth

Serene as the Swan

Sun-drenched and laidback, Perth is simply a joy to be in. However, the West Australian capital does have tourist attractions, such as the Colonial-era mint, important in the country’s gold industry. East is the WACA, a must-see for cricket fans, and the city is also mad for Aussie Rules football.

The city centre has the historic Government House and Supreme Court, both dwarfed by the ultra-modern skyscrapers a few streets behind. The best skyline view is from leafy King’s Park, near the War Memorial overlooking the Swan River below, named after its black swans. Across the river in Perth Zoo are more native animals including koalas, crocodiles and free-hopping kangaroos.

Boats to the zoo leave from the Barrack Street jetty by a sail-shaped bell tower. Other day trips from Perth include Rottnest Island and Fremantle, down the river in the opposite direction from Perth Airport.

The apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Perth are spread all over this fantastic city, interspersed with restaurants serving specialities such as western rock lobster and chilli mussels. There is also a wealth of bars, many playing the indie music that the city is known for. Local brews from the Swan Brewery and wines from the Swan Valley vineyards round off the evening.

I liked the comfortable room, central location, good value...

I liked the comfortable room, central location, good value for money, and the staff were very friendly/helpful. Near good restaurants and Mount Street breakfast bar served delicious food, coffee and cold pressed juices. The decor and bathroom was a bit dated and could have done with a makeover. The foyer entrance could have also been more inviting and as it was quite hot in Perth for May and could have benefited with welcoming water in ice/lemon etc. It was nice but lacked some basic finishing touches that would have made it even better

I can’t believe how much the city has changed since my last visit. It’s definitely caught up with the rest of the world. A busy, easy to get around & great looking place to visit. So many choices of places to eat too. I’m looking forward to spending more time there when I return.

Perth is a modern, vibrant city with its own distinctive architecture and beautifully situated on the wide Swann River which feels more like a harbour in some places. There are many opportunities for sight-seeing from Rottnest Island, Kings Park with spectacular views of the city; the Perth Zoo, The Pinnacles and the Perth Mint to name but a few. We also did a Swann River cruise and wine, beer and chocolate tasting tour just an hour from Perth. We celebrated our anniversary at Crown Casino and even had a decent win.

The fact that I have lived in Perth since 1988 is testament to the City of Perth and Western Australia in general. We have some fantastic weather even though summer can get pretty hot at times. Winters are mild, but we still feel the cold sometimes. Since coming to live in Perth the population has more than doubled so I guess Perth is no longer the best kept secret ever. A few hours south finds Margaret River wineries and forests of very tall trees. It is the only place where you find Jarrah trees growing. Experience all weather from the very south to the very north and tropical Broome with its pearling history and under the stars cinema complete with an excellent history. Take a camel ride along cable beach at sunset.

The Aurea Hotel is located at the southern end of the CBD. There are free buses to take you into Perth or Matilda Bay. My wife and I took walks through some near-by, beautiful parks where there were swans, shags and ducks. Dinner and breakfast were filling and enjoyable without being great. Our room overlooked other buildings and the main road, although it was not noisy inside the room. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We really like staying in the Oaks Perth Hotel. However we noticed some problems with facilities in room 614. The lamp on the left bedside table had a faulty electric cord, the lack of a second chair in a room is still inconvenient, the tap on the kitchen was wobbly. It's still a good place to stay in Perth but it looks like the maintenance of this hotel is neglected.

This property is so central to all the must see iconic Perth locations. An easy walk to the Waterfront precinct, the CBD and Kings Park. They offered free parking which is so rare at city hotels. The fully self contained apartments were clean and very comfortable. You could easily stay a week or more.
