Even though it was December, the weather was extremely cold and wet. The room had no heating. The old air conditioner worked only for cooling. Furthermore, Reception was ALWAYS closed! The reception hours featured on the notices and on the website, did not apply. The 3-digit emergency number was never answered! The security guard let us in upon arrival, then he too disappeared.

The excellent restoration of this magnificent Victorian building shows how clever and considerate are the owners. They have incorporated luxury comfort without losing the features of the building, and the modern extension to the property blends seamlessly. Throughout the place are cosy reading nooks and a marvellous and eclectic selection of fabulous books, art and memorabilia, placed always to enhance the sense of design. The owners are warm and friendly and add to the overall sense of welcome and serenity. The weekend continental breakfast was excellent. Overall we felt a sense of calm in this lovely place.

Ballarat is terrific. Full of history, culture and shopping. Lake Wendouree and the Botanic gardens are always a delight. Lunch at Craigs Hotel Atrium was very special and a good price. The Gallery always has something new to see as the exhibits change often. Eureka Stockade museum is a really good exhibition and tells the story of the Rebellion. The King Bakery on Sturt street has THE BEST vanilla slices and meat pies. Yellow Espresso next door does a great coffee too. Op shops are well situated. Messer & Opie is a really nice Men's & Women's clothing shop in the Bridge street Mall. Although Ballarat is more hilly than you'd think walking around the area is still easy.

I would have liked to have walked in the downtown area but I didn't know how to pay for parking.
The main purpose of being in Ballarat was to visit Sovereign Hill which we could have spent so much more time at. This was better than we had expected.
Friendly staff, great performances and there was a feeling of going back to different times in history.

Ballarat is a historical gem, it reeks of history everywhere you go and is easy to get around. The restaurants, cafes, pubs and people we met were all great. We have been several times now and we will go back as the region has plenty to offer . If you go in winter, rug up.

I was thrilled that the begonias in the botanic gardens were still in full bloom ( mid April) . I was moved by the exhibit on the Eureka Stockage. I was impressed with the large number of elegant historic buildings in the city.
The check in process was easy with clear and regular communication from the Hotel team, even though we arrived late into the evening.
Extra special that we had after hours access to the grounds, on top of the admission to the theme park when it opened the following day. That was worth the room rate alone!
Room was spacious, with plenty of bench space and storage and a fridge is always a bonus.
Oscar’s is a beautiful boutique hotel located in the heart of Ballarat. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is quite large with a few different rooms to choose from, all which are bright and stylish. Staff are very friendly and accomodating and the food is fresh and delicious. If you are staying in Ballarat Oscar’s is the place to go!
Excellent location in the heart of Ballarat, only a few minutes walk from the train station and surrounded by many great choices for delicious meals. The Ballarat Art Gallery is just across the street from the hotel. The hotel room was warm, comfortable, and clean, and the hot water pressure in the shower was very good. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming.
Newly built, spacious and great location! Opposite is a fantastic restaurant which makes it easy for dinner option. Lovely Hampton’s style decor with modern appliances. The bathroom was a luxury escape, the heat lamp helped with warming the floor tiles on a cold night. Great air-conditioner/heater. Netflix in the room was a bonus.
Lovely and thoughtfully updated heritage hotel in the centre of Ballarat, so close to the food/drink laneways, art gallery, shops. I arrived at the railway station and it was a very quick walk to the George. Elegantly presented and comfortable. Very helpful staff who willingly found me peppermint teabags late at night.
The hotel was in the quiet part of Ballarat but not very far from cafes, restaurants and places of interest. Room was clean and cozy. Did not use the spa but it was there. No contact check-in and check-out but everything was well organised. Got my SMS with instructions on the day of check in promptly.
I frequently have to travel to Ballarat to attend University. When I do stay overnight I choose to stay here. The hotel is in a great location, not far from the Uni and easy access to the city. Staff are always friendly and the rooms are quiet, clean and comfortable. Great value!
The hotel matched my expectations for a "cheap & cheerful" motel. It was quiet, easy to find & in close walking distance to good restaurants.
The reception on arrival & departure was cheerful, welcoming & friendly.
The house is spacious and well appointed. It’s in a great location with a great cafe, charming pub and wood fired pizza joint within a block and the Ballarat station and CBD an easy 12-15 minute walk.
The customer service and food were great. The Hotel facilities and grounds were lovely. Our room was clean, the bed and pillows were very comfortable. Will definitely stay here again when in Ballarat.
The room was much bigger than I expected. It was perfect for a family of three with a little kitchenette, living room and seperate bedroom with ensuite.
