Located beachfront to Copacabana beach, Rio Othon Palace features a rooftop pool with excellent views of the Sugarloaf Mountain and an on-site fitness center.

Great location, great facilities, infinity swimming pool and rooftop with great view. Wave by othon by the beach is great as it’s only a few meters from the hotel.

In Rio de Janeiro center, the Itajubá Hotel has free Wi-Fi in public areas, air-conditioned rooms and a 24-hour front desk service.

Great location, just a few steps away from the subway. Breakfast is decent. I did feel safe. Old, but everything works in the room. One of the pillowcases was stained. But not bad, just mediocre. I'd stay there again if I needed to.

Centrally located in Rio de Janeiro, Hotel Atlântico Avenida overlooks the lively Rio Branco Avenue. It is only 5-minute from Santos Dumont Airport, and offers free WiFi in public areas.

Affordable stay during carnaval. Bus stop to the beaches is a 5 min walk. Light train metro is right outside the hotel. The dock area and one of the nicest churches in Rio is walkable. There’s a few homeless at night that didn’t bother me all 3 nights. Took Ubers back to hotel at night.

Offering an outdoor pool, Vila Galé is located right in Rio de Janeiro´s city center. The hotel features a complete wellness center and guests can enjoy their on site restaurant and bar.

We arrived at the hotel at about 10pm at night and it was super easy and fast to check in and get to our room. There was a small shop right next door to get some beverages and snacks at that hour, which was good because it felt a little unsafe to walk too far in the neighborhood. It was a Saturday night and it was very busy in the area. We had a king size bed which was super comfortable. The AC worked great and the breakfast in the morning was nice. Unfortunately it was rainy and cold when we were there so we didn't get to use the pool but it looked beautiful. We were also able to leave our luggage in a locked room until 5pm on our checkout day which was great!

Boasting an outdoor pool, Vogue Square Fashion Hotel by Lenny Niemeyer offers sophisticated accommodations designed by the famous Brazilian stylist Lenny Niemeyer.

The installations were of good taste, quiet, luxurious. The interior design was pleasing to the view, modern, sophisticated and clean. Located in a mall area, you have withing your grasp all together combined into one. High cuisine restaurants, modern gyms, large area for physical activities and so on. On the rooftop, there's a restaurant for the guests who stay at the hotel. There's also sauna and a pool for those who wish to sunbathe without go to the beaches near by the area. Intent to stay in this hotel once again for many years to come.

FAQs about hotels in Rio de Janeiro

Sassy City of Samba

Home of samba, Brazil’s 2nd largest city is sassy, seductive and spectacular. The Rio Carnival is legendary the world over for outrageous costumes and infectious rhythms.

Host of the 2014 World Cup final in Maracanã stadium and the 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, Rio de Janeiro is forward-thinking. High rises line Ipanema beach and you can find dozens of rollerbladers on the promenades at any time.

The hottest spot is Copabacana, a great place to try biscoito globo, a typical Rio beach snack. Sip a caipirinha here while the sun sets over the bay and mountains – it's unforgettable, but the fun doesn't end there. Clubbing in Rio is fantastic and ranges from techno to traditional bossa nova. Bohemian beats can be found in Santa Teresa and Lapa, where trams pass over a double-arched viaduct.

Overlooking all this from Corcovado mountain is iconic Christ the Redeemer, welcoming the world to Rio with arms outstretched. Take a cable car up to this statue on the edge of lush Tijuca Park for incredible views. Accessed by cable car, Sugar Loaf Mountain is also not to be missed.

Rio de Janeiro Airport is well linked to the ‘ Marvelous City’, but traffic can be manic, so leave enough time to reach it from your Rio hotel, apartment or hostel booked through Booking.com.

Cristo Redemptor & Sugar Loaf a must - breathtaking panoramic views. Queue's are unavoidable but use the hotel or affiliated excursion services - they are very helpful and gain better access. We visited everything we possibly could from Botanic garden to the Maracana & all are great memories (unfortunately). I would go back regularly if I could - the people and vibe are special. Just to add - not once did we feel unsafe or vulnerable.

    Rio is Rio. Unique.

Rio is Rio. Unique. Naturally blessed by natures, beautiful beaches, mountains and lush and green. Throw in a healthy dose of sun and it makes for a great vacation. The locals are a mix of everything which adds to the rich tapestry of this land. Some districts, eg around Botafoga are charming and the area gives you a sense this is where luxury lives and the upper crust reside. On the flip side, there's the run down and rough parts of town. Although they do offer their unique vibe you need to be wide eyed and alert . Some areas are seriously socio-economically disadvantaged. Being poverty stricken, makes people desperate. And being desperate makes you do desperate things in order to survive. the crime levels in these areas is very palpable. It's sadly a vicious circle that can be tough to get out of. Little options remain for this demographic meaning they have little chance of moving onto better things in life. Sugar Loaf mountain and Christ the Redeemer are obviously the main tourist attractions. The beach is life for cariocas and this is their happy place

So much to do in this lively city.

So much to do in this lively city. We spent four days here and did not have enough time. I would recommend 6 nights especially if you are a beach person and want to spend more than 1 day at the beach. We hired a private guide for one full day and that was perfect. This allowed us to pick and choose what we wanted to see or where we wanted to spend more time. I would buy fast track tickets to Christ the Redeemer and Sugar Loaf if you do not want to wait in line. It is a great city with a great fun vibe.

For the most part, everything was great at the Fairmont,...

For the most part, everything was great at the Fairmont, including the location, breakfast, the staff, the facilities, and the views. However, the ventilation in the guest room was very poor. The room had the odor of mold and/or of a damp basement. Of course, this quality should not exist at this type of property, particularly, where, as here, this issue apparently has been previously reported to management based on previous reviews.

We had a junior suite as we wanted a good amount of space to chill when at the hotel compared to smaller rooms in ipanema, Leblon and Copacabana so that was great. Great view of the sea which was amazing to be fair, and loads of room in the place. The gym is also very cool, and a good amount of weights machines and cardio too with a great view of the sea.

Location (not your typical Rio hotel on Copacabana/Ipanema), this hotel is literally on a very nice small beach (not private, but easily accessible and safe), great breakfast with lots of options, comfortable room with great sea view. Very helpful concierge desk. Bikes available for a stroll over Leblon/Ipanema beaches. Good restaurants on the resort.

The hotel offered a cosy atmosphere despite being basic, and its roof terrace had an amazing view. We found the room clean and spacious. The staff were very helpful and polite, and the breakfast was delicious with a good selection. Plus, it was just a short walk to both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

The location is perfect, the hotel rests over Copacabana beach but is also located next to Ipanema beach (walking distance), being both the most famous in the city. The breakfas was really good, recommended. And the hotel staff was very kind and willing to help all the time.
