Lyon is a gastronomic center with a pretty architectural facade ranging from antiquity to modern day. Place Bellecour is centrally located between the Saône and Rhône Rivers in the 2nd arrondissement and opens out into major shopping streets.
On the banks of the Saône lies the district of Vieux Lyon, a great example of the Renaissance and full of museums such as the Lyon History Museum. Winding your way through the beautiful streets you can make your way up to the spectacular white-stone Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière and look down over the city.
There is a lot going on in the main park of Lyon, Parc de la Tête d'Or, which is home to a zoo of exotic animals as well as various sports facilities and a large lake for boating. Boats of a different description are docked on the banks of the Rhône River; they host parties late into the night.
For a taste of tradition, Lyon’s famous bistros, or Bouchons Lyonnais, provide a cozy atmosphere for some of the best in French gastronomy. Plan your perfect holiday in one of Booking.com’s 130+ hotels, apartments or guest houses.

Within the city there is a long weekends worth of sites to visit. The roman museum was much better than expected.
Many good restaurants.
Getting to and from the sports stadium was much easier than expected, numerous special trams laid on to take fans back to the city centre, and the queues at the stadium were well marshalled.

Lyon is magnificent.
Lyon is magnificent. Went for the rugby and the city did not disappoint. Highlights were the Halles Paul Bocuse and the cathedral on the hill. Wonderful views over the city. Places to eat at other than the market aforementioned would be Le Vieux Lyon and L'Atelier d'Yvonne. Set meals were magnificent as were the pitchers of wine. Probably recommend staying in the centre for a first time visit as you can walk to the main parts of interest easily.

Certainly worth a visit.
Certainly worth a visit.
Very well-preserved medieval city center.
The 19th century leafy quarter with representative boulevards is a nice place for a walk and then sit in a café or one of the restaurants.

Lyon is an extremely tourist-friendly city, with a number of ancient, historic and architectural wonders. The central of Lyon lies between 2 important rivers, the Rhone and the Saone and the confluence between them lies just south of the city centre. The highlights of the visit was the iconic Notre-dam-de Fourviere, the ancient Roman-built Odean theatre and cinema, and the Vieux City along the Saone River. This was richly enhanced through the 90 min bus tour from Bellecour.

I visited principally because it was Saint-Exupery's birthplace. Unfortunately, there isn't a Saint-Exupery museum yet: there's a plaque on the house where he was born, and a statue with the little prince at the junction of the roads where he was born and where he used to live. But there's loads to do. It's a superbly historic city, very picturesque, culturally extremely rich, and the local cuisine is absolutely fantastic. Sunsets on the Matterhorn from the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourviere are some of the best I've seen anywhere. Would definitely recommend for a leisurely vacation!
Very good quality for this price. Room was very clean. Little kitchen has everything basic needs. Also you can drink coffe, tea, hot chocolate for free. Good breakfast for this price. Near the train station Parte Dieu, near chattle to airport, near bus stop, 20 min walking till centre old town. If you have chance to be there sunday, there is market near bonapart bridge, where you can eat fresh oysters with nice view near Sona. If we will come back to Lyon, will book again this hotel.
the owner of the appartment is extremely rude !
i am still right not able to get the receipt of my payments !
he promised to send me the invoice insisting that he couldn’t do it before booking settle him!
i waited , the settling date was 17may.
i don’t live in France , I explain to him to give a priority to send me the invoice so I can settle on my end .
i called booking customer help line who asked me to send an email instead , which I did and I never received any response .
This was a great and affordable place to stay. I was travelling with my mom (senior) and aunt (late 50's). They don't require extravagant accommodations, but do have very high expectations of cleanliness and being in a safe location- Hotel Simplon checked both boxes. It was nice that it had a little bit of character too. The staff were friendly and I will be recommending this hotel to friends who are travelling to Lyon.
Great view from the room and the restaurant for breakfast.
Good location beside Part-Dieu shopping centre (Westfield)
The tram from the airport stops nearby.
From the Part Dieu train station nearby you can take a train to other parts of France or Geneva.
There is a tram station right outside the hotel which makes it handy to visit other parts of city.
The reception staff were friendly.
You can’t beat this location, especially for the price. We only had one afternoon and evening in Lyon which we regretted after arriving and seeing how cool the city and our hotel was! The staff at Le Phénix try really hard to make your stay as nice as possible. The design, mixing minimal modernism with the historic architecture was spot on. Highly recommend!
It was truly the most unique place we’ve ever stayed. Meticulously renovated rooms, in a building that—like a lot of places in France—sits on a site once occupied by the Romans. The hosts were just lovely! They treated us to a breakfast of French treats on the first morning—all to die for. A charming private garden is the icing on the cake.
It is a really nice hostel for this price I think. The staff was incredibly friendly and it is great that they have things like a free food fridge. This was my first time in France so i cannot really compare with another place but my experience was really good. Thank you for everything!
The interior of the hotel is beautiful and our room was very charming. This was the most comfortable bed of our trip and the central location was ideal for our short stay in Lyon to explore the city. The staff were very kind and accommodating and we hope to be back again soon.
The rooms are small but have everything you need. The bed is comfy and the bunk bed above the double bed is a nice thing for children.
The hotel is very close to the train station, really just a few meters, which makes it ideal for train travels to Lyon.
The location was very good to reach various points of interest with a short walk (e.g. Vieux Lyon, Place des Jacobins, Place de la République, Notre Dame de Fourvière, etc.). Staff were very friendly, reception is manned 24/7, the hotel shows eco-awareness.
Most staff was able to speak English. That still is to be regarded as a big plus in France...
It's a rather new hotel so most things ok. Beds were ok. Choice in breakfast was not huge, but what was available was good.
Beautiful decor, professional and lovely staff, always a smile and very helpful on any question, tasty and great breakfast. Should I have the pleasure to come back to Lyon, this will be MY Hotel.
- Curtain for the privacy.
- Decent amount of ensuite toilet/shower rooms.
- Kitchen with cooking amenities. I appreciate this as it's not available in many hostel in France now.
Great Value for money, good location in Vieux Lyon, you can. Close to the station, enough restaurants in the area. The hotel is on the 2nd floor, quiet and a very friendly staff.
