Boutique Hôtel des Remparts & Spa, hotel in Aigues-Mortes

Located in a former military station dating from the 18th-century, inside the medieval ramparts of Aigues-Mortes, this refined hotel offers a bar and a terrace with sun loungers.

This hotel is a dream come true - absolutely fabulous and luxurious, a treat to the eyes. The hotel itself is an 18th century historical building and it is situated in a medieval fortress at one of its main entrances. There are only 14 rooms and even the standard classic room that we booked was huge, luxurious and tremendously beautiful. Our room had a view of the Constance Tower. It had a bath tub and two wash hand basins in the bedroom, and then a fantastic modern shower cubicle. The safe opened as a drawer, so big items like photo apparatus could be stored easily. Due to Covid restrictions, we had the indoor pool reserved for us for half an hour, thus enjoying privacy and quiet. Though meant for relaxation, not proper swimming, the pool had all sorts of jets, including swim against the current ones. The staff was fantastic, always enthusiastic, extremely helpful and with a radiant smile. They even drove us to the train station free of charge with their electric buggy. And then there is the adorable pet/owner/mascot, a cute spaniel with those adorable eyes, as the cherry on the cake.

Aigues Mortes is the most beautiful walled town set on the edge of the Camargue salt pans. The town is lively day and night with a great choice of restaurants and bars and there are some lovely shops to browse in. Just strolling down all the little streets is delightful. Not far from the town you can see thousands of flamingos at the Parc Ornithologie and there is a good beach at Saint Maries de la Mer

The owner seems to feel that her inability to follow through on allowing us to use the pool after the early check out was offset by they’re keeping our luggage until 4 o’clock. I understand it’s a family run hotel and maybe they don’t understand that all hotels offer the service of keeping your luggage until you can come back to claimant for your onward journey she accused us of coming by train and not by bike we never did say that we were coming by bike. We gave her our train arrival time and we arrived on time. We were joining a bike tour that was close to the hotel. She told us we could use the pool and then reneged on that offer. It was very disappointing. Very difficult to make her understand that I guess it’s a language barrier.

Aigues-Mortes is an outstanding place to visit; the scene from the salt flats looking towards the city is unforgettable - nothing has changed since 1248. The city (in reality a small town within the walls) is very relaxed. The people are friendly and the restaurants are good. Surprisingly un-commercialised for somewhere this good. Absolutely worth a visit.

Aigues-Mortes-Mortes is a lovely little medieval town at the Western edge of the Camargue region. It is famous for its salines (Fleur de Sel), but not so for its rich and well maintained historic buildings and infrastructure, encircled by an old city wall. It is surrounded by beautiful ponds with dozens of flamingos, and access to the Mediterranean Sea. There are plenty of restaurants (traditional French seafood, as well as international cuisine), as well as a number of coffee shops and bars. Especially at night time, the lit town gates that are fully preserved are breathtaking. If you are in the region, its definitely worth a short visit. La Grande Motte, Arles, and Montpellier are in reach by cycling distance.

We didn't know beforehand that the dates we booked coincided with the "Fete Votive 2022". Our first view of the town was that of a noisy fun-fair pitched up against the medieval walls of the town. The fair extended inside the walls and there was a great deal of loud music - mostly pop music, and much drinking. This absolutely was not what we wanted but fortunately our accommodation was far enough away from the centre to be aware of the revelries. Undoubtedly the town is charming, and the upside of fete was that young black bulls with an escort of mounted riders on white horses were driven along a main throughfare twice a day - which generated a lot of excitement. Our vacation was taken in early October, seemingly well beyond the tourist season and we had difficulty booking a tour to visit the Camargue or to the salt pans - both of which were primary reasons for staying in Aigues-Mortes. Nevertheless, we had an enjoyable stay in the town which was kept immaculately clean during the fete, and it was easy to avoid the areas of heavy drinking and loud 'live' music. Would I go back to Aigues-Mortes? Certainly, but I would choose the date I visited there more carefully. I should perhaps mention that we were self-catering, and we had great difficulty in locating food shops within the town, though there were enough restaurants and food outlets open so you will definitely not go hungry. I cannot tell how typical our experience was since it did coincide with the fete, and we are just too old to participate in activities of our youth. It's a lovely place for a short stay. Do your research carefully.

Since our last visit quite a few years ago the number of mosquitos has increased enormously, particularly if one wants to eat outside in the main square in the evening. Well worth visiting Les Petites Trains de Colorado even for people not interested in model trains. Superb working display, entry 6 euros.

The "room" is the top floor of an old town house in the historic center of Aigues-Mortes. The room was amazing and the balcony was absolutely fantastic. The pictures really doesn't do this place justice. The aircon was strong, and there was a fridge, microwave and a coffeemachine. There was a nice bathroom with a shower and a sink. The apartment (it more or less is) also had an office space with a small desk, even though we did not use it. The host also offered his parking card, so parking was free. Will absolutely come again!

Ample parking, lounge chairs for outdoor seating. Good lighting in room. Air-con. good. Google led us to it, but, since we were looking for Noemys, or Mona Lisa, we were confused by the ROYAL HOTEL signs. All persons I had contact with were VERY helpful, polite, friendly. Small fridge in room. Very near Intermarche and Super U. Short drive into Aigues-Mortes, once the bridge is repaired (early June). Watched pool being cleaned and filled.

We were very pleased with our stay at Villa Mazarin. The location is superb, in the centre of the old town, but in a quiet street, underground parking is available. The room was large and comfortable. We would go back to it any time. We could not eat at the hotel because the restaurant was closed on that day, but the breakfast was nice, although a bit old fashioned as everything had to be ordered. We prefer a buffet style breakfast.

Perfect location, around the corner from the main plaza with many restaurants. The property had 3 levels, 3 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 4 fans, a few sitting/common areas. Very spacious for adults. It was a genuine provincial, old sandstone French house with window shutters, eclectic furniture and decorations. Perfect if you want that experience rather than the modern hotel. Free parking outside the walls (with parking card)

A very comfortable hotel right inside one of the most remarkable towns in France. The proprietor has got a gem of a hotel there. And the inclusive breakfast served in a café/restaurant 50 metres from the hotel and situated on the main square, is a perfect spot to enjoy a delicious breakfast whilst people watching. I loved it!

Hotel Les Templiers is really a very charming and comfortable hotel. Each room inspires relaxation immersed in the beautiful period architecture of Aigues Mortes, wonderful vintage arts and crafts. The bedrooms, washrooms and public areas are creatively designed and choreographed in the spirit of the place.
