The breakfast was wonderful and absolutely full of variety. Also, the view of the surrounding area from where breakfast is served is stunning! We were lucky to have wonderful weather during our stay, and we took advantage of walking along the waterfront around the hotel (it was in a great waterfront location). We had adjoining rooms for my wife/I and the kids. Each was clean and faced the ocean (each room had a nice balcony). The staff was wonderful, attentive and helpful… Parking was also on site…

FAQs about hotels in Marseille

A City Built from the Sea

Founded by the Phocaeans in 600 B.C., the long history of Marseille has produced an interesting and dynamic port-side city bursting with cultural diversity. Watch the fishermen sell their catch by auction at Vieux Harbor or cruise along the Corniche roads with views of the Calanques, dramatic rocky inlets to the sea.

The le Cours Julien and la Plaine areas provide a trendy hangout and every Thursday and Saturday morning, the Plaine market offers its various wares. This is the area to buy a novel from a hip bookshop or watch your kids on one of the playgrounds. There are also plentiful cafes to sip a cappuccino and watch the world go by.

If a culture packed vacation is on the agenda, the Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne, Notre Dame de la Garde and Palais Longchamp won’t disappoint. The unique Unité d'Habitation, designed by famous architect Le Corbusier, contains everything from a shopping street to housing and has spectacular views of the terracotta landscape that makes Marseille so distinctive.

Marseille is a short trip from Marseille Provence Airport, so your holiday can start promptly. With over 100 hotels and apartments available, Booking.com is the perfect place to find great accommodation and start your journey in the largest city on the Côte d'Azur.

Marseille is a cosmopolitan center; you will find there the history of a country (continent) in a nutshell, and the simmering traces of revolt are evident. On the other extreme, you can walk through a city of French grandeur, see the monuments, and stroll and shop on the significant and renovated quai. Been there now 2 times with 5 years in between, and the extremes only became more entrenched. To get a sense of the growing divide between the rich and the poor, consider a city tour of Marseille.

A beautiful city ruined by graffiti and anti-social practices by recent arrivals. You go from slum to elegance to slum within 50m. City authorities have no answers to dirt and squalor. Compared to Lyons it is a 3 out of 10. The people of Marseille should take some pride in their city and not treat it like a toilet.

Don't let yourself be fooled by the messy streets: Marseille is a pearl of a city, lovely people, food, and history. Beaches that may not be natural, but do give easy access to some great swimming. Do: get an RTM pass, take a ferry. Don't: try to drive.

Early June, Marseille was far too hot (30'C+) during the day and, surprisingly, no sea breeze. A couple of waiters in the Old Port Restaurants and bars said that September / early October was probably the best time of year to visit Marseille: still decent weather without it being quite so hot, Very historic and lots of sights to visit, but not in 30'C + weather!. The Marseille Metro system worked extremely well in getting 60,000 or so Bruce Springsteen fans to and from his gig at the Velodrome on the Saturday night. Word of warning though to future gig goers at the Velodrome: if you are seated on the north side of the stadium, you will have the setting sun directly in your your eyes until about 8.00pm in the evening at that time of year: Springsteen was on stage at 7.35pm (2hr 50min show).

I returned for 2nd time to Marseille, the 2nd populated city, after Paris, to get better immersed in its charming atmosphere. The major port city in the Mediterranean is a crossroad of immigration and trade since its founding by the Phocaeans-Greeks circa 600 B.C. The contemporary cultural blending emanates ancient vibes. Due to its rich historical and natural heritage is attractive to many tourists and travelers. Nice strolls around the Vieux-Port (Old Port), iconic aerial views from Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde and Fort Saint John, clean beaches in less than a half hour trip, all-day spending in the old and vivid Le Panier district, elegant seafood, mostly sunny weather, gorgeous sunsets, what else to looking for?

Marseille is a big city and not a place for vacation.

Marseille is a big city and not a place for vacation. We used a lovely villa in the hills overlooking Marseille as a rest and good base to explore other interesting places nearby, such as Cassis. The Villa Blanche was lovely but you really need a car to be able to explore the surrounding areas. The Villa Blanche hosts prepared each day lovely breakfast. Since there were no restaurants in the area we usually had a late lunch in one of our excursion towns. Uber eats also delivers there. There is also a lovely infinity pool in their very lush garden.

Excellent location close to both the Port and the main shopping area. The Vieux Port Metro station is right outside the hotel. Our room was absolutely lovely - quiet and spacious, with a beautiful bathroom and the fridge and tea making facilities were most welcome. Breakfast in Reception downstairs was great with a nice selection of fruit, yoghurt, hot food and fresh warm croissants from a local bakery. Very impressed.

Excellent Hotel right by the Vieux Port and all its attractions. Very friendly staff and comfortable room which was very quiet. The hotel does not have its own parking but there are underground car parks nearby - the nearest one is only 50m but is very expensive compared to the ones which are about 10 minutes away by foot away - around half the price for 24 hours!
