Hendaye is beautiful but Hendaye Plage itself is a little beautiful beach village with no good restaurants-who goes to France and has bad dinners?!.
Also - we had a terrible experience with the rental property we rented near where we have family living. The people who ran the agency that managed our apartment through booking.com/poplidays.com were very unprofessional and unaccommodating when we had serious issues. The property manager or the owner -- I don't know which was greedy and used our security deposit to cover expenses that were outrageous. There was one little smudge on the glass stove top and they withheld 80+ euros for cleaning. The place was spotless except for the smudge. This was just a way to get more money when we already payed a huge amount for a week's rent. They also charged us for a repair to the shutter that would not go down. The day we arrived, the door lock was not working and it required a locksmith to come as we were locked out. They were unreachable for a few hours and provided terrible customer service and the property manager rep who came was cussing up a storm because she had to work after hours. Everyone we dealt with before during and after this rental was obnoxious and not the least bit concerned about us or our experience. They just want the money. So good luck if you go there!

Love it there, many day trips possible closeby in France as well as in Spain: hikes in the lower Pyrenees, bike rides, visiting cities like San Sebastian, Biarritz or Bilbao - or the cute Basque villages. The beach is fantastic, good to know that the weather may vary as it is on the Atlantic side and at the foot of the Pyrenees.

We like Hendaye, having stayed there many times.
We like Hendaye, having stayed there many times. The beach is excellent. Splashing around in the surf is great fun. There are plenty of places to eat and drink. We have returned several times to a creperie near the seafront - highly recommended. The promenade has been improved recently. We prefer Hendaye to its better known neighbours.

We ate in the Santiago Hotel restaurant.
We ate in the Santiago Hotel restaurant. The food was good and there was a vegetarian option.
We found the river and walked along the wooden walkway. There were lots of birds to see.
At present it is not easy to get around Hendaye as there are major works on the main road, and the train to Hendaye from San Sebastien stopped before Hendaye and we were sent to buses to take us the rest of the journey

The walk along the river to the sea is beautiful with parks and flowers.
Good transport links to San Sebastián and Saint Jean de Luz and back to Bordeaux.
It was difficult to find a restaurant on Sunday evening!
Fabulous location and really lovely hotel. Nice to have a little balcony to have breakfast in the morning.
they do breakfast but we don't eat much and they provide a kettle. So handy for amazing public transport. We only took our car out to go into the mountains. For 5,50 euros you can get a bus 4 minutes walk away to the train station and then a little train to San Sebastian in Spain. And that cost is return!!! St Jean de Luz was 2.40 euros on the bus return! Fabulous views along the coast. a wo nderful part of France.
Not only the room were spacious it was very clean. Also, the food was extremely delicious and was cook by a young chef wit great kknowledge of cooking. The young lady serving our table, was extremely kind and helpful in translating the menu for us since they only had it French. We recommend to have the menu in Ingles and in Spanish. If you like a clean roomy room and a place to eat, this is the Hotel for you with underground garage. We din't try their breakfast.
I had previously visited Hendaye on a school trip 57 years ago and was keen to re-visit with my wife of 50 years. To quote her, “Of all the hotels we have stayed in throughout the world this has been one of the best and I know why you were keen to re-visit this City.” The breakfast at the hotel was very French and my kind of ‘le petite dejourney’ A lovely visit bringing back some childhood memories buried deep in my past, the hotel was just the icing on the cake.
Very clean, comfortable. Romy the host has put a lot of love into her property with small touches like coffee, some condiments and cold water on our arrival.
Instructions on how to find the location/get into the property were the best I’ve ever seen …so clear and simple 👍
Near by bike or car to nice beach and supermarket. Hendaye is a pretty area
Swimming pool good size, relatively shallow …can stand up at any point.
Hotel Valencia was everything I had hoped it would be. The location was perfect and we had a balcony that looked onto the beach. The room's lighting was excellent. The furniture was beautifully designed and functional. The bathroom had good lighting and a very enjoyable shower. We had a great time and are definitely going to make this a regular stop on our drive to Spain.
Nice hotel on the border between Spain and France. We were passing through on our trip to The Netherlands but we could easily stay a few days more. The hotel has an excellent restaurant with tasty local dished cooked to perfection. After a comfortable night in our modern and cozy room, the rich breakfast was a good starter of the continuation of our road trip.
Good location if you have a car and you want to move around (the region and Spain) with the highway and border really close. Far from the beach if you don’t have a car.
The price for the period - mid august - was one of the cheapest in the area( still expensive for the quality of this hotel)
Location was fantastic , view over the beach and easy access to Hendeye Plage. Apartment very comfortable, plenty of space for our family of 4. New beds, bathroom recently renovated and plenty of hot water. The garage was also very useful, parking in Hendeye can be difficult in high season.
The breakfast offered for extra cost was exceptional, best part of the stay. There is a bus close to the hotel which can take you to the train station. There is also a nice path to the water that takes you on a long walk around the water.
Affordable place to stay in Hendaye, bunk bed in a tent. I started the Camino from the Surf Camp. It was about an 8 km walk using Google Maps from there to Irun where I started following the yellow arrows. Nice folks with a chill vibe.
Natasha offers a cute, comfortable, and quiet bed and breakfast in the hills of Hendaye with a view of the bay. We did not have a car, but two bus stops are within a 2 minute walk. The bus took us to all the places we wanted to go.
Spacious room in a clean and comfortable house. The host was very welcoming and helped us sort out my broken suitcase!. Ideal for a stop over after the long journey from London- it's only 10 minutes walk from Hendaye station.
