Beautifully appointed and super spacious room. Was upgraded to a sea view room, which was absolutely delightful. Breakfast was a nice spread of options and coffee with larger dishes for purchase, I was fine with what was provided. Convenient to have a restaurant on site for a late bite or glass of wine before turning in. Staff were all super helpful. Can walk everywhere in town from here.

Beautiful decor, loved having the record player in our room, stunning bathroom. A really luxurious feel. Margate was a great town to explore and there were so many great bars and restaurants. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel or use the spa but would definitely come back and try it.

Believed Margate was regenerating but found it more derelict and run down than any visit previously
Even new businesses boarded up
Witnessed fights
The trendy old town area is really trying its best and the only thing I enjoyed was the breathtaking sunset

I felt like we saw 2 Margates, the high street and the area we stayed was old, run down and almost derelict. Not at all what we was expecting and we was quite shocked based on reviews of people raving about the area. The second day we went to the Old Town and despite being only a few roads away from the High Street, it was like a different place, nice and trendy coffee shops and shops.

The Turner Contemporary was a huge disappointment, there was nothing in there but three rooms with a tree in each and strings of rotting apples hanging from the ceiling on strings. Oh and a huge Heath Robinson contraption that made clay. A bad joke.

Margate is a diamond in the rough ,it has many interesting features and curios to discover. Many places are in need of resources to help it develop further, so we can rescue more of its interesting buildings. The business that are there are offering a great service to everyone and they help to make the stay an enjoyable one.
The star of the stay has to be the fantastic sunsets that are best experienced on the beach front, they are the best and top up my battery of wonderful memories ,of a trip to the British seaside. There is something for everyone in Margate, and well worth a visit at anytime throughout the year.

Cliftonville and beyond towards Kingsgate and Botany Bay...
Cliftonville and beyond towards Kingsgate and Botany Bay much nicer for walking than into Margate itself. Beaches better that way too
If jet skiing is your thing you can do it here. It has a club and cafe facilities. Or you can just watch from the top of the promenade and cliffs
Margate itself has lots of eating places or if you walk towards Kingswood and Botany Bay there is the Botany Bay hotel and bar with indoor and outdoor dining and is very popular lunchtimes especially weekends. Dogs made very welcome. Order at bar with table number. We only had coffee but food looked very good and reasonable prices for a hotel. Staff very friendly and accommodating.

Margate is often described as up and coming.
Margate is often described as up and coming. It still has some way to up and come. Parts of the old town are delightful and there are some really excellent restaurants, but there are a lot of shabby, badly kept buildings all over the place and the overall vibe is a bit down market. This was our first visit to this part of Kent. Margate was a good touring base for the likes of Canterbury and Whitstable but, if we were to visit again, we would probably prefer to stay in neighbouring Ramsgate or Broadstairs, which looked more well kept and more interesting.

A magical place to stay! We stayed in a family suite (room 111-112). The children (aged 13 and 10) had their own room within the suite but with an interconnecting door which worked very well. The breakfast was delicious and very fresh. We were lucky enough to have good weather so enjoyed the beach being so close. A beautiful walk along the coast takes you into Margate where we enjoyed Dreamland, the shell grotto and fish and chips. Thank you Walpole Bay Hotel for a wonderful trip.
Hotel was very clean, tastefully decorated, comfortable, and the staff were really friendly and helpful..especially as we broke down on our long journey down from Wirral to Margate and arrived late. Receptionist recommended a local garage and by the next day my car was fixed. We wanted to stay on an extra night and hotel staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Excellent breakfast and really wonderful old Victorian building.
Hotel has only recently opened, the staff were friendly and we were upgraded to a suite. The room was clean and spacious, with really nice decor, including Margot in Margate prints which was a nice touch. Everything was clean, the bed was really comfortable with 3 pillows each. The shower was hot and powerful and towels were decent size and quality. Toiletries were big bottles from a local company, so much better for the environment.
