The breakfast was delicious - the rooftop dining room looked out to the city, and the Acropolis and Parthenon and St. George’s church on top of a mountain on the other side. Just gorgeous day or night.
Very close to restaurants and shopping. We needed another suitcase for souvenirs and got one within walking distance.

With the Acropolis as the jewel in the archaeological crown of Athens, this city is full of history while embracing the future. Take a stroll back in time through the neoclassical streets of the Plaka, where you'll find tavernas serving tantalizing souvlaki and mousaka, street vendors and live entertainment.
A trip to the Parthenon and the Agora top most lists and can also be appreciated from a distance by walking along the Dionysiou Aeropagitou street, which is away from the busy crowds of the city center.
The changing of the guard occurs every hour on the famous Syntagma Square. From here, Ermou Street provides shopaholics with a fashionable retail sanctuary. The upscale districts Kolonaki and Kifisia are also bursting with fancy boutiques, galleries and bars.
Athens has some of the finest museums in the world, such as the National Archaeological, Acropolis and Benaki Museums. From Athens International Airport to the Port of Piraeus, this is a city bustling with the old and new. On Booking.com you can find everything from modern hotels to a room in a classical building.
This was my second time visiting Athens. My previous hotel booking experience wasn’t great — although I had booked through Booking.com, it turned out to be a scam. I couldn’t find the hostel’s location and ended up having to cancel and stay at a much more expensive hotel.
But this trip was a game changer!
This time, I carefully read other guests' reviews and chose a hotel that fit our budget and was located relatively close to the city center. I planned a 4-day trip, but we also took a day trip to Santorini by plane — from morning to night — which turned out to be a truly memorable experience.
For restaurants, we avoided fancy places and instead explored more local spots — and honestly, we had some of the best food we’ve ever eaten in Athens.
We loved these restaurants and bars:
- Diporto
- Brettos
- Mokka Specialty Coffee S.A.
- Lefteris O Politis
- To Kati Allo
To visit sights like the Acropolis and its museum, I recommend setting aside a full day. It’s best to go early in the morning to explore the Acropolis site before the heat sets in, and then visit the Acropolis Museum in the afternoon.
One of the great things about Athens is that many of its archaeological sites can be visited for free, or are visible from the streets and public areas.
Many of the archaeological sites in Athens don’t require a ticket, so you can easily visit them in the afternoons.
Don’t underestimate the charm of Athens’ different streets and neighborhoods — especially if you’re into vintage items and second-hand markets.
You can spend time at these neighborhoods:
- Psyri
- Plaka
- Exarcheia
- Anafiotika
The people of Athens are incredibly warm and hospitable. You’ll find street musicians on almost every corner, adding a unique and lively vibe to the city.
Athens isn’t a “one-time visit” kind of city — chances are, you’ll want to come back again.

The historical significance of Athens is interesting with many museums incl. the Acropolis museum and the Acropolis itself to explore. Dont forget the newly built Nicharos Centre and if possible attend an event there as well. Of course the islands are unique and only found in Greek waters, so a visit to at least one or two of the islands would have to be a must. As for shopping the only department store in Athens is
Attica which is not bad by international standards.....if the terminals
work, which were not on my last visit.....typical Greece.....always issues including some taxis refusing anything else than CASH. Not allowed but they demand euros....credit cards not accepted.

If you enjoy GREAT food and history, this is the place.
If you enjoy GREAT food and history, this is the place. The Athens Metro, with subways trams and busses will get you anywhere in town. Taxis are also available, but public transportation is top notch. First timers should buy the "combo" ticket to see the sights. Remember during high season, reserve your time for the Acropolis. (Mornings are better, hot!) There are many videos on YouTube to watch for ideas and some pointers on where to go... we have used one called "The Periegete" also "Travel Where". Food! You bet, it's everywhere, just watch the prices. Take good walking shoes and sunscreen... Enjoy one of the best cities in Europe!

We travelled to Athens with our seven-year-old daughter for sightseeing in mid-April, when the weather is pleasant and there are still a reasonable number of tourists. Besides the outdoor attractions (e.g. Acropolis, Agora), there was something for her to do every day: free-roaming turtles and the playground in the National Park, running in the Olympic Stadium, changing the guard at the Parliament, taking a ferry to Aiginia Island, chasing fish knee-deep in the sea, taking a cable car ride up Lycabettus Hill.
We spent four days in Athens, but it was worth buying the five-day public transport pass (€ 8.2), because we made the most of it. To get to the airport, we used bus X95, as it left from entrance 4 of the terminal building, whereas the metro is a longer walk. You need a separate ticket for the airport bus or the airport metro (the bus is much cheaper). Our 7 year old daughter could travel for free (and the Acropolis entrance was half price for her).

This is the second time I have stayed here on my trip in Greece, when I left first it was fully booked, but there was a cancellation and I happily came back the last days. Super clean, super comfy beds. The best place I have ever stayed, it already felt like home and I didn't want to leave. They make you feel at home there. I made very nice friendships too. The last few nights we shared dinners and it was very nice. I will miss you guys mi familia! And the jacuzzi! if I come back to Athens it will always be my first choice!
We spent our last two nights in Greece here and thoroughly enjoyed them. Absolutely amazing location of the hotel, excellent breakfast in the restaurant at the foot of the hotel. Amazing attitude of the staff, nothing was a problem. We needed a second key to the room and we were perfectly accommodated. The accommodation was clean and the equipment absolutely sufficient. We will definitely stay here next time we visit Athens. Highly recomnended!
Top notch luxury hotel in the area, with very spacious lobby with multiple seating areas, bar and unique rooftop views to the Athens sightings. Great bed, super comfortable and stylish. Food at the great hotel's restaurant was great and abundant. Reasonable prices for autumn so I will highly recommended to my friends who want to visited Greece for vacations.
Loved everything about the Niche Hotel!
