One unmissable stop along the Via Appia is the Church of Domine Quo Vadis, where, according to tradition, Jesus met Saint Peter as he was leaving Rome, prompting Peter to turn back, and they returned together to face martyrdom. This site is a cradle of European culture and thought, and I truly recommend everyone to visit it and reflect on its meaning. Absolutely recommend Rome over Paris or even New York. It's up there with London, and we have lived and worked in both London and Rome. The public transport is pretty good but I wouldn't take a car any more because the number of cars seems to have doubled in 20 years as has the number of tourists due to the change of pope and the jubilee year. You can find excellent non-touristy places to eat but you have to look hard for them. Rome is a wonderful city to wander around. It is very friendly and th food is great almost everywhere. We found public transport readily accessible also. I’m May the weather was warm but it wasn’t too overcrowded. If you like history, Rome is full of ancient buildings. People there are generally friendly, but tourist flooded all the attractions. Main attractions are very accessible by public transportation. Taxi fare is reasonable, but you pay for the traffic jam as well. Unless you have mobility issues, walking is probably the best way to see the attarctions.Guest review byMKYIMCanada
